Wal-Mart has proposed a 217,000 square foot Supercenter with an eight bay fueling station for Amherst, New York, and a group of local activists is fighting effectively to keep the unwanted mega-store from intruding upon their community.

The Town of Amherst Town Board has already downzoned the parcel of land Wal-Mart has targeted and placed square footage restrictions on development for the town. However, these setbacks have not stopped Wal-Mart from paying for a full page ad--and making inaccurate claims--in The Amherst Bee that their development would create jobs, generate tax revenue, and give back to the community.

The issue of Wal-Mart’s proposal will be taken up by the Amherst Planning Board on March 16th and the town board on March 20th, and is being opposed by Say No! To Wal-Mart in North Amherst.
