Earlier this year, the city of Beaverton slowed Wal-Mart's plan to build a new by ruling that their application was incomplete. Wal-Mart resubmitted the application and is now awaiting a response from the city deeming it complete. The citizens of Beaverton and the unincorporated Cedar Mill area have organized and formed a group called Save Cedar Mill. The group has effectively brought the Wal-Mart issue to the forefront of Beaverton news and politics and is working to educate the community and elected leaders about the negative effects Wal-Mart will have in this fast growing community.

As the application process moves forward, Save Cedar Mill has built the capacity to turn out concerned citizens for public hearings, encourage citizens to express their view to their local elected officials, and build a strong case the . Save Cedar Mill has successfully raised the funds to retain a land use attorney and traffic engineer who are formulating their strategy.
