Ventura, CA
Proposed Build-Out: Move into vacated K-Mart
Current Status: Speculation – Wal-Mart has not submitted an application
Primary Website: In development

The Stop Ventura Wal-Mart Coalition is sounding the alarm about increased traffic, low-paying jobs and the effects on small business owners if Wal-Mart takes over the lease from K-Mart in the Spring of 2007. In anticipation of this action, the city council stepped in by imposing a yearlong moratorium on new commercial development along much of the street. The moratorium was established in part to give the city time to draft new rules before having to consider a new Wal-Mart in the city. The ban will last 10 more months, unless it is extended.
The city held a public forum on 4/27 to discuss the pros and cons of a proposed Wal-Mart in Ventura.
