Bozeman 2020 Community Plan, Land Use (2001)
Topics: Traffic/Sprawl | Comprehensive Plans
Anticipating that a projected doubling of its present population during the next twenty years will cause added land use pressure, this Montana city aims: “To inject long-range considerations into the determination of short-range actions.” Starting with the common theme of residents’ desire for Bozeman to remain a friendly and aesthetically pleasing place to live and work, this 48-page document, outlines among it guiding Land Use principles: compact neighborhoods with easily identified centers and edges serving a variety of housing needs; transportation networks for bikes and pedestrians instead of only for cars; parks, trails, and open spaces in convenient locations; and development, using existing public services, integrated into the larger community. The overall intention is to plan ahead to discourage sprawl, support the Historic Downtown, and allow for a limited number of carefully sited, appropriately sized, regional service centers.
