Comparison of Vehicle Trip Forecasts for Big Box Stores (2004)
Topics: Traffic/Sprawl
Based on studies compiled by the Institute of Transportation Engineers, this report compares traffic activity for different types of land use: Wal-Mart Superstore, Home Depot Superstore, and Costco. The report draws the conclusion that a Wal-Mart Superstore would be expected to generate nearly 93,000 trips during a week, 25 percent higher than the 73,000 trips generated by Costco, and over three times the 24,000 trips generated by Home Depot.
