Christian Groups Seek Wal-Mart Boycott

From Cox News Service, via Austin American-Statesman:

Conservative Christian organizations are contacting supporters to urge a Thanksgiving weekend boycott of Wal-Mart Stores Inc. because the company is paying a commission to a small gay organization for sending buyers its way.

Each purchase made by clicking through the gay group’s Web site to Wal-Mart’s retail site generates a payment worth 5 percent of the sale.

Donald Wildmon, chairman of the American Family Association, said Friday that his group has sent e-mails to 3 million supporters urging a boycott because the deal suggests Wal-Mart executives believe “the homosexual agenda is worthy of their support.”

Michael Sessa, president of the Washington D.C. Center for Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender People, said he was “not familiar with the brouhaha” because his group’s Web links are so rarely used.

“I’d be surprised if we ever got a dime from Wal-Mart,” Sessa said.

Actually, it’s a bit more: $4.17.

Wal-Mart spokesman David Tovar said that since the link was established with the gay group in 2002, it has attracted one purchase at Wal-Mart, worth $41.73. That purchase generated a payment of $4.17, apparently because Wal-Mart was offering a 10 percent commission at the time, he said.

Tovar said the online connection to the group comes through a long-standing operation called the Walmart.com Affiliate Program. The program encourages shoppers to buy goods through Wal-Mart’s Web site, knowing their purchases will generate a commission for the affiliated group.

The affiliates program is “a common marketing practice” used by major online retailers, Tovar said. He noted that more than 43,000 organizations participate, including more than 100 Christian organizations.

The shopping page of the D.C. Center’s Web site has active links to many retailers, including Dell Inc., Amazon.com and Barnesandnoble.com.

Jim Marks, development manager for the D.C. Center, said he was surprised that the group’s Web site would spark a call for a nationwide boycott because it seldom attracts attention of any sort. The group, which operates out of a small office, has a limited budget and little ability to promote itself.

“There hasn’t been a lot of follow-up on our part for our Web site,” he said. “To be honest, there is no income from it as far as I can tell.”

How such a marginal group, which offers education programs on topics such as the dangers of crystal methamphetamine abuse, could become an unwitting source of controversy speaks volumes about Wal-Mart’s cultural importance.

As the world’s largest retailer, it has long been a target of political attacks. Typically, they have come from liberal organizations unhappy with Wal-Mart’s wage and benefit policies.

But since August, conservative groups have been hammering Wal-Mart for agreeing to enter into a partnership with the National Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce. The company said it forges business partnerships with many minority organizations to help it attract a diverse array of suppliers.

That August announcement rankled some conservative groups because it followed Wal-Mart’s decision in April to sell DVDs of “Brokeback Mountain,” a movie about a love affair between two male ranchers.

Operation Rescue, another Christian conservative group, is promoting an initiative it calls “Operation Save Wal-Mart” to protest what it sees as the retailer’s links to gay groups. It too is calling for a Thanksgiving boycott.

Wildmon said that even though the relationship between Wal-Mart and the D.C. Center has generated just $4.17 in commissions so far, it shows that Wal-Mart is more concerned with pleasing gay groups than offending social conservatives.

Indeed, the small amount of the single commission “confirms exactly what we said about Wal-Mart,” Wildmon said. “They are willing to keep that up association and be identified with that group and keep it going, despite the fact that it is going to cost them” when the boycott takes effect.

So the Bentonville PR machine does it again.  They anger 3 million would-be shoppers for $41.73.  Brilliant leadership Mr. Scott.  You earned your multi-million dollar salary on this one.

I doubt if many gay people find Wal-Mart a ‘hip’ place to shop anyway.

I am simply an almost daily shopper at Walmart in both Cedar Hill and Waxahachie, TX.  I spend about $100 a month as my “co-pay” portion of prescriptions while my insurance company reimburses you the rest of my prescription costs.  In addition, I spend abouto $500-600 a month out of my personal pocket for groceries and miscellaneous items at Wal-mart.  I quit shopping at Target a couple of years ago specifically because of the stand they took against supporting our troops and refusing to allow Salvation Army on their doorstep in addition to their view of the National Gay and Lesbian Alliance.  You have apparently have chosen to follow that group also all in the name of MONEY.  As a conservative Christian, I now must find an alternative means of shopping for my prescriptions, groceries and miscellaneous that I used to do all at one store because I refuse to shop at another Walmart store as long as you take your current stand.  I urge you to re-think this issue and realize that if you don’t, you will find out just how many people will refuse to spend another dime at a Walmart store anywhere.

This is a no-win argument for Walmart or any other retailer.  If you support any type of Gay and Lesbian group you will be hated by religious groups.  If you don’t support Gay and Lesbian groups then you will be labeled as bigots.  What’s a retailer to do....

What a stroke of brilliance!  That way we earn brownie points with the Man Upstairs without having to completely forego the benefits of doing our holiday shopping at Wal-Mart.  Still, that 42-inch plasma HDTV for $998 is awfully tempting, and I have to shop Black Friday to get it.

because the company is paying a commission to a small gay organization for sending buyers its way.

It should be obvious that homosexuality is a crime against nature.  Accordingly, we should make it against the law in this great Christian nation.  Join me and my Conservative Christian brothers as we fight to make this dream a reality, one boycott at a time.

Each purchase made by clicking through the gay group’s Web site to Wal-Mart’s retail site generates a payment worth 5 percent of the sale.

I’ve been told that this isn’t any different than an affiliate marketing program with a Christian group.  The person who said this is just wrong.  Christians promote adherence to the Scriptures (no matter how outdated), saving the unbelievers from damnation (even if it means coercing them into denouncing their sin), and brotherly love (for fellow Christians only). Homosexuals promote godless deviant lifestyles, acceptance of a life of sin, and making love to your brothers.  All of these things are wrong.

Wal-Mart executives believe “the homosexual agenda is worthy of their support.”

I’m surprised it took a marketing plan through an unheard of website (that some closeted believer probably ran across while looking for gay porn) to convince me that Wal-Mart was leading the way in promoting gay rights.  The signs were all there: selling a popular movie that happened to be about gay cowboys, no speech publicly banning homosexuals from the stores, Susan Chambers (clearly she was once a man).  Thankfully the Lord has opened my eyes.

Michael Sessa, president of the Washington D.C. Center for Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender People, said he was “not familiar with the brouhaha” because his group’s Web links are so rarely used.

I’m shocked.  Who would have ever imagined that people do not go to gay advocacy websites to shop at walmart.com?

Actually, it’s a bit more: $4.17.

Heaven help us!  Wal-Mart donated $4.17 to a group for referring a sale!  We must act quickly before they donate another dollar to this insidious cause in 2007.

Wal-Mart spokesman David Tovar said that since the link was established with the gay group in 2002

What! It’s been this way since 2002 and no one said a word? Where have we “Christians” been?  Jesus wanted us to wield his unrelenting hatred toward homosexuals against Wal-Mart years ago.  In fact, I’m pretty sure he wants us to burn the DC Center to the ground this instant as a precursor to the fiery agony that awaits these people in hell.

The program encourages shoppers to buy goods through Wal-Mart’s Web site, knowing their purchases will generate a commission for the affiliated group.

Fascinating business strategy. I’ve been stuck in the days of the Inquisition so long that I didn’t even know this could be done.  Nonetheless, I disapprove.

He noted that more than 43,000 organizations participate, including more than 100 Christian organizations.

Not all 43,000 are Christian organizations?  We must launch an investigation immediately into the other 42,800+ organizations. One of them might be espousing reproductive rights, and I’ll be damned if I let Wal-Mart donate my money to help curb the number of unwanted pregnancies.  I’m much happier donating my tax dollars to welfare programs and looking down my nose at the harlots who use them.  It makes me feel secure in the knowledge that I’m in the Lord’s good graces.

The shopping page of the D.C. Center’s Web site has active links to many retailers, including Dell Inc., Amazon.com and Barnesandnoble.com.

Quickly! Boycott them, too, as well as most of the other Fortune 500 companies that also promote the homosexual agenda.  I’ll do the Lord’s work if it means boycotting every business on the planet.  He will provide.

Jim Marks, development manager for the D.C. Center, said he was surprised that the group’s Web site would spark a call for a nationwide boycott because it seldom attracts attention of any sort. The group, which operates out of a small office, has a limited budget and little ability to promote itself.

I hope our overblown indignation doesn’t give this group more publicity, and hence, more support.

As the world’s largest retailer, it has long been a target of political attacks. Typically, they have come from liberal organizations unhappy with Wal-Mart’s wage and benefit policies.

Why should Wal-Mart be blamed for these things?  They are only required by law to pay the minimum wage.  I don’t understand why these evil liberals see the need to attack and/or boycott the company due to legal labor practices.  Wal-Mart can do what it wants with its money.

But since August, conservative groups have been hammering Wal-Mart for agreeing to enter into a partnership with the National Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce. The company said it forges business partnerships with many minority organizations to help it attract a diverse array of suppliers.

First they took Christ out of Christmas, and now they are trying to thrust homosexuality upon us.  Have you noticed that Wal-Mart has developed an increasingly anti-Christian agenda.  We Conservative Christians must fight the good fight for the Lord and show Wal-Mart that He will not stand for acceptance of the nonbelievers.

That August announcement rankled some conservative groups because it followed Wal-Mart’s decision in April to sell DVDs of “Brokeback Mountain,” a movie about a love affair between two male ranchers.

Because of this sinful film I had to burn all of my films starring Heath Ledger.  ‘Twas a shame since I just loved The Patriot.  That anti-Semite Mel Gibson is a great actor and a great man.  Who didn’t love The Passion of the Christ?  To speak ill of that film is sacrilege.

Wildmon said that even though the relationship between Wal-Mart and the D.C. Center has generated just $4.17 in commissions so far, it shows that Wal-Mart is more concerned with pleasing gay groups than offending social conservatives.

Mr. Wildmon is absolutely correct.  We simply demand that Wal-Mart devote itself to a policy of discrimination against groups that do not adhere to the God’s Word.  The Bible is clear that homosexuality is an “abomination” to God and he will not forgive these people.  It’s quite simple, Wal-Mart.  If you take steps to become a more socially responsible corporation, then we will not shop your stores.

Religion SHOULD BE BANNED completely as all it does is encourage hatred.

Organized religion doesn’t seem to work. It turns people into really hateful lemmings like Nancy Lehew above and it’s not really compassionate.”

Religious leaders AKA nutcases like Pat Robertson, Falwell and many other church fanatics fail to do anything about conflicts around the world.

Why aren’t they coming together?”

RELIGION = HATE

The world would be at PEACE if it had no religion.  Religion is the reason the world has so many problems.

There is a big difference between Religion and Organized Religion.  Religion is what you believe in your heart and Organized Religion TELLS you what to believe.

How come So Called Christians, talk the talk, but don’t walk the walk?  They believe that they can SIN all week and be forgiven on Sunday and are “good to go” for another week.  Even priests and ministers don’t practice what they preach.  Those millions of people you talk about, will boycott Wal-Mart, just because they were told to do so, or they won’t, just like they don’t obey most of the other things they are told NOT to do.  If a person truly believed what they preached, they would hardly ever sin, not commit a hundred sins a week.

Some very good points… but do you truely believe RELIGION = HATE or that religions should be banned as someone else said in a previous post?  Does the 1st Amendment not say “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof”?  What is advocated by some statements here is that religion should be banned.  Hey if you think that is an effective deterrent to hate then why not just say HATE should be banned?

In the end it’s the personal freedoms we enjoy in this country that make it the greatest country in the world.

I also consider myself to be a conservative Christian, and was made aware of the boycott through the AFA.  I don’t often agree with the tactics that the AFA uses and am often mystified by how they can blow things so out of proportion.  According to the e-mail I received, WalMart was donating 5% of EVERY ONLINE SALE through walmart.com to a gay organization.  In trying to be intellectually honest, I decided to search this out a little and I now discover that the story is much different.  I find it baffling that we could blow $4.17 into a full scale “We hate WalMart” fiasco.  Honestly, people, I think if we would open our eyes, we would see that this is a part of our society now… no… not a majority, but a part none the less… and I can guarantee you nearly EVERY major corporation is going to somehow offer support to these sorts of organizations because they are trying to get ANY and ALL customers that they can!  If you think about it, you may stop shopping at WalMart, but you will then have to go to Kroger or Publix, and I’m sure they have at some point given SOMETHING to such a group.  Either that, OR the companies that produce the products you PURCHASE have done so.  I’m don’t want to promote desensitizing ourselves… this is just common sense.

You are either a Christian or you’re not! In many different places in the Bible, God forbids men to lay with men and woment to lay with women. You have to read the Bible spiritually in order to understand it spiritually. It wasn’t that long ago that I was convinced that it was part of life and we all should just learn to deal with it. But in the process of just learning to deal, something opened my eyes. I am a mother of 3 who has fielded all kinds of questions about the issue. I choose to educate my children in the ways of God, not the ways of the world. If you roll over for every new issue that is persistent enough to try and change everyones perspective, then all the Christians might as well start preparing for their demise now.

Kristie, I couldn’t agree more.  I also, am the mother of 2, and although I have not had to answer questions because my children are still too young to understand these things, I am concerned for the questions I will have to answer.  I am and will definitely continue to raise my children according to the ways of God and teach them Biblical truths.  However, I feel that we must pick our battles.  Boycotting WalMart over four dollars makes us all out to be blood thirsty fanatics when there are much bigger fish to fry.  I am not condoning the lifestyle in any way, shape, or form.  I just think there is a better way to make our point (i.e. at the polls where here in TN, gay marriage was opposed 85% to )…

Suzanne, I completely agree with you!  I was appalled to think that 5% of the profits that I provided Wal-Mart was given to that group.  I also wanted to educate myself on the situation and could not believe how deceitful and misleading the email from AFA was.  Considering they are a Christian group, they should realize that lying by omission is still that… LYING.  I felt very deceived by that email and will still shop at Wal-Mart because it is cheaper and I know that most business do contribute to all kinds of organizations, including this one.

No, I don’t believe that RELIGION = HATE or that religion should be banned.  But, I do believe that Organized Religion can promote HATE and that most wars origins were religion based.  The problem I see, is that religion promotes that there is only ONE God and that God is the same for all religions, yet, every organized religious group, tends to look at God as being Their Personal God and those who don’t believe the same way they do, must not be true believers and therefore somehow EVIL and HATE can come forth from their command to fight evil.

Jerry, so let me get this straight with this simple example.  If you are a Catholic you have your own god and if you are Jewish you also have your own god.  And since Catholics and Jews are in and of themselves their own “organized religious group” with their own “Personal God” then Catholics must view Jews as EVIL and Jews view Catholics as EVIL.

I would bet if you ran this by Catholics and Jews they would pretty much give you the same answer.... it’s just a bunch of bunk.  As for myself I am a Catholic and don’t ever recall the word “evil” or “hate” anytime coming up in my conversations with or feelings towards Jews and I have quite a few of them that I call very good friends.  We all have a healthy respect for each others religions.

Nancy Lehew - I’m sorry, but I have to defend Wal-Mart on this one. What if you found out that a manager at your favorite retail store, had been cheating on his wife? Would you stop frequenting that retail store because of it? After all, “adultry” is the #7 sin in the Ten Commandments. If I’m not mistaken, GOD wrote the Ten Commandments himself, and then gave them to Moses. The Ten Commandments say “nothing” about gays and lesbians. As opposed to popular belief, what some guy named Leviticus thinks, and what GOD thinks, are two total different things! I’m sure all of the authors of the Bible were “inspired” by God. That doesn’t mean that God agreed with every single little thing that the many authors wrote about, over the several different periods of time, in which the Bible was written! The Bible was also used to promote slavery, as well as it is written to “stone your children” when they misbehave! The last time I checked, “GOD MAKES NO MISTAKES!!!” All of his children were created in his eyes, and are exactly how he wants them to be! What Leviticus wants, and what GOD wants, are two different things! I’m tired of the “holier than thou” crowd, “picking and choosing” versus in the Bible, to hide their bigotry, just as the KKK does, and slaveholders prior to the Civil War did!!!!! There’s a difference in between being a “good christian”, and a “bigot!!!”

I can’t believe the stance everyone is taking on this.  Maybe all of us should do our research.  If you chose to boycott Wal-Mart, you should choose to boycott all of the companies that support the same things Wal-Mart does.

To name a few, KRAFT, TARGET, MICROSOFT, MOTOROLA, SEARS, WALGREEN’S, AMERICAN AIRLINES, HYATT HOTELS, VOLVO, TOYOTOA, IBM, CITIGROUP, MERRILL LYNCH, VIACOM, MTV, VH1, DELOITTE, HILTON, NIKE, PRUDENTIAL FINANCIAL, CHASE, ERNST AND YOUNG, HOTELS.COM, PRICEWATERHOUSECOOPERS, WASHINGTON MUTUAL, WELLS FARGO, CHEVRON, PFIZER, AMERICA ONLINE, BANK OF AMERICA, FANNIE MAE, AARP, MARRIOTT, DELL, HEWLETT PACKARD, WACHOVIA, MELLON FINANCIAL, KODAK.

Let’s face it, that’s just the tip of the iceberg.  Wal-Mart isn’t the first and certainly won’t be the last.  So if you choose to boycott Wal-Mart, you better throw away that Kraft cheese in the fridge, destroy your motorola cell phone, close your account at Bank of America, delete Microsoft Windows, sell your Toyota, and stop watching most of the channels on cable.  Most of the companies I listed have a 100% of the Human Rights Campaigns Corporate GLBT Equality Index.  Wal-Mart has a 67%.  To be honest, they are years behind from making these decisions.

You are right, that as a Catholic, you may not hate a Jewish person, but the fact is, that your beliefs are not the same.  You use different books and Jews do not believe that Jesus is God’s son.  But, you live here in America, where we have some tolerance for others.  How about those Muslims, in Iran, do you think that Allah (their God), teaches them to hate Americans, to the point that they would fly planes into our buildings, if he is the same God you believe in?  Why would God tell them to kill you?  While you don’t hate Jews, they do.  I have been told by people, that their religion was the chosen religion and that everyone who believed otherwise, was going to end up in Hell, I guess that was done out of Love, because they were trying to convert me, to SAVE me.  Also, why has Christianity split into so many different factions?  You all believe in the same God and all read the same Bible, right, so why the divisions?

“We all have a healthy respect for each others religions.”

You may respect each others religions, but down deep, you each think the other side is wrong in their beliefs, because, you both can’t be right.

Jesus preached Love for a reason.  Because he recognized people for the differences, and hardships.  If, any of you so called Christians studied Jesus at all, then you would know that he was Loving, Giving, Tolerant, Accepting, Caring, and Sympathetic.
Homosexuality is not going anywhere, so you might as well start accepting it or become more of a hatefilled person than you are today.  Hate is not part of being a Christian.

I feel that Walmart bringing back the word Christmas into its advertising and culture is a slick trick to try to win back those who do not support Walmart anymore because of its associations. They have made their position clear when they took up membership in that gay business organization.
Walmart is not part of my shopping experience anymore.

That’s what’s wrong with America. Nobody wants to “offend” anybody, so we have to make the minorities happy.
Everyone acts like homosexuality is “natural and alright” it’s NOT, It’s A SIN, (just remember that in about 100 years when your talking with our maker.) I’m sure he’ll back me on that.  This act by Wal-Mart should offend the Christian community; we should start using the internet for issues like this versus pornography, and everything else tearing this county apart. I figure if Wally world wants to support the Gays, let’s all boycott them over thanksgiving weekend, tell everyone, and then, have everyone go their website explaining why we’re not giving them our money. If millions of us did this the day after Thanksgiving, it could bring their
Computer system down, and that would put an additional hurt on them…….
Just remember, JCPenney’s was established by a Christian, their company could use our money, and I’m pretty sure K-mart will have enough checkers.

It won’t bring the system down, but that you even suggest something like that shows me precisely what a good Christian you are. If someone unfamiliar with the religion were to read the comments posted here by “conservative Christians,” he would think you were all a bunch of bigots (and he’d be right). Thank you all for representing your faith so well.

I’m trying to come up with a list of companies you need to boycott. These links should help:

P.S. Where does the American Family Association get off thinking that these companies are obligated to discuss anything with them? I applaud Kraft for refusing to even discuss it with them.

I thank God that he does not burn America to the ground, so far he has been taken out of are children schools, almost took him off are money, the movies we watch says in every sentences GD, and I don’t mean God. Americans are accepting the gay lifestile. No one has any morals, and we wonder why God does not answer are prayers.

If Walmart can afford to donate 5% of online sales to a political charity like the Washington GLBT center, it can afford to pay their associates more than the $7.15 per hour they currently pay them, which is a subsistence wage, NOT a liveable wage. It might be more palatable if Walmart was donating to a non-political charity like the American Red Cross or the United Way.

Even if you don’t object to homosexuality, signing the AFA petition is a great way to strike back against increasing corporate predation and worker exploitation in America.

I think walmart should have better things to do with their proceeds than donate to such a ridiculious cause. My opinion is that sick children and poor familys should be first. Walmart is supposed to be a family enviroment this does not sound like the enviroment I want to be involved in .

I think WalMart is displaying what the Church should be like.  What would Jesus do?  He’d be shopping at Wal-Mart too. I think as Christians our job is Not to judge but to Love.  Anyone as they are.  This is cruel and sad.  Stop closing your eyes and educate yourself on the one that may be sitted next to you.  Some christians talk as if Gay and Lesbian people live in another island.  Be very aware they may be your own brother or sister, etc...would you love them any less or treat them with less respect?  There are many other issues we should be worried about.

Email to Lee Scott, president of Wal-Mart:

“Dear President Scott:

As a long-time Wal-Mart shopper, I am very uncomfortable with your corporate support of the gay and lesbian agenda - uncomfortable enough to reconsider my shopping habits, but I was struck with incredulity when I read that your company is going to give preferential treatment to gay- and lesbian-owned suppliers and vendors.

When I watched your shelves become flooded with products - especially those that are distributed only by Wal-Mart - that are made in China, I turned the other cheek, held my nose, and told myself that your company was simply pursuing the cheapest products to build the best bottom line it could for the stakeholders’ sakes.  I knew that your company’s international division had made deals with the Chinese in order for you to place your stores in their vast, untapped market.  I told myself that your company’s principals either valued the bottom line more than anything else - including their ethics, since they would be dealing with an oppressive Communist regime - or they really believed the hype about “exporting capitalism.” I chose to hope that the latter was true.  I told myself that I had the choice of either continuing to shop at your stores, or finding other stores to shop in, and I decided to continue to come to the Wal-Mart stores I have shopped for years.

I can’t do that this time.

Your company picked a curious way to embrace diversity.  If you as individuals think that marriage is as much for homosexual people as it is for heterosexual ones, you could have and should have supported these groups and their agenda on a personal level.  It should have been enough for you to have corporate policy that protected associates and management who happen to be homosexual people from discrimination in the workplace.  It should have been enough to have corporate policy that directed your buyers to treat all vendors and suppliers equally, regardless of the sexual orientation of the companies’ owner(s).

For some reason, it wasn’t enough.  I guess everyone has their own interpretation of “equality.” Your company chose to make a statement to the public that takes one side of a highly divisive - and personal - issue.  Your company chose to shun one group of people for another.  Your company must think that it is for Wal-Mart to take its treasury and force its corporate ideals on other American businesses, but your company is practicing the very discrimination it thinks it is fighting.

Your company, in evaluating the possible repercussions of such action, must have decided that I and my family need your rolled-back prices more than you need our customary patronage.

You were wrong.”

If walmart has so much money to donate why dont they help their employee’s by paying A liveable wage. I belive there are more deserving groupssuch as salvation army, food pantry’s and shelters that could use the money.

As an American, I have a right to clearly know when public stores such as Walmart are donating money to causes, organizations, research, foundations, groups, activists, etc.

Walmart should have publicly announced the donation of 5% sales to gay/lesbian activist and/or groups.  It should of been posted within the store where anyone could see, and be announced on the intercom at intervals so people were totally informed.  It should not have been found out about by hear say.  Perhaps it was posted somewhere, but to the general shopper, it was not made evident.

People have thier own causes.  For instance, what if Walmart was donating money to nuclear research in non-allied countries.  Of course this is radical, but none the less, such donations should be posted and informed to all shoppers.

Any honest genuine caring human being, would want money to be donated to people in need of medical help, or hunger, especially children.  Also people who have endured a catastrophe.

It’s time for groups and races to quit begging for attention, handouts, and noterity.  We are all what we are, work for yourself, take care of yourself, and be yourself.  Help people who really need help.

I don’t promote myself nor do I ask for help.  People should have a backbone, and “EARN” what they get in life.

Also I don’t proclaim to be any religion, I am just a plain American with good hearted beliefs.

No fancy words from me, so use your common sense.  Don’t twist and tangle my simple words to debate in political style.  Read this as if you talk to your best friend.  That way you get the point and you clearly understand.

Have a heart.

To anyone who missed the facts-

It’s not as if this is a pure donation. The homosexual group is one of more than 43,000 participants in Wal-Mart’s affiliate marketing program. Denying them the right to participate just because they promote gay rights would be discrimination, would it not?

Also, the 5% is only for referred sales (and the gay group’s site has referred exactly one in four years). No one in his right mind would think Wal-Mart would donate 5% of sales to anyone or any cause.

Michael-

Wouldn’t you think that Wal-Mart Watch should support Wal-Mart’s policy of nondiscrimination against homosexuals? As concerned as they are about women, racial minorities, and the disabled, I expected homosexuals to be in this group, too. Yet they make no comment. Does Wal-Mart Watch have an anti-gay agenda? Or, does their hatred for Wal-Mart override any other principles they may have?

All sin is sin,PERIOD!We as a society judge according to what we want or like,to God you will burn in hell for a lie as well as killing someone. It states that being homosexual is morally wrong, and that all kinds of sin and hatred follows such things.I will say you should not hate someone for being gay, love them and show them support! My sin I have trouble with is cursing, their sin is laying with the same sex,we both have downfalls. Jesus was the only perfect person and all we can do as Christians is try to be like him everyday. We should not encourage sin at all!! If all of us can provide masses of emails for your friends to boycot gas companies to lower gas prices, why can’t you do this?As far as the list goes above,I do not do buisness with none of those.Christ said we would suffer greatly for his name sake,do you not think this may be part of it?Just remember, our reward is always heaven!!

I am a conservative Christian and a Pastor, and I think this boycott is the stupidest thing I’ve seen in a while.  You who claim to be Christians should read the Bible and try to understand it.  The only people Jesus got mad at were the religous leaders who used God’ law to beat people up with.  He had compassion on everyone else.  Quit calling for boycotts and start loving God and His people.  Only then will the world listen to you.

I shop at Wal-Mart frequently.  I have a female partner and I of course am female.  They donated a whole $4.17 to our organization big deal. I have a baptist minister father as well and he doesn’t agree with my lifestyle but he raised me to the age of 18 and now I am responsible for my own life.  I will have to face the wrath of my father in heaven not you so why don’t you just leave us alone.
I believe in Christ as well as God I have never lost my faith but I also know that you are not the ones that will judge me.
The funny thing is that our money is just as good as everyone else’s while we are spending it but when it comes time to help our organizations that is a big no-no but the ones of you that have businesses and we shop there you take our money.
The restaurants that we eat at the places we take our children to play or shop or eat and yes I have two beautiful children from my last husband.  The truth of the matter is that it is our children that have to pay the price as well as us.  If you want to boycott Wal-Mart that is your business but i for one will not.
As far as you “conservative christians” that are on your soap box lay off and find a real issue like the war in Iraq for one the war on drugs that are killing our kids daily and lets not forget cancer research or even abused chilldren and women lets try that on for a change.
You are suppose to be about love but you all just preach hatred and I am sure that is what is really in your hearts but like the one stated just remeber you may have a sister brother aunt uncle cousin or even parent that is gay and you are a closeted bigot hiding behind “religion” and unable to live in the real world.  I have never read in the bible anything stated about gay bashing being okay or anything else I am not saying you ahve to accept us but let us live our lives in peace.  I don’t push my lifestyle on anyone including my children but I also know that my children will be well adjusted for it.
I also wanted to say that I am also a active person in my community as well as a correctional officer to put food on my table I don’t take assistance from the state in any form or fashion so why don’t you get off your soap boxes and find something else to complain about
I have one for you all the baby touching that is happening within the churches and abuse that is going that nobody wants to admit or help with because they don’t want to get involved.  Now isn’t that odd for such caring people right.

Some of you people need to get a life!

I do not believe in homosexual activity, but I do believe that it is none of my business what sex others prefer.  What people do in the privacy of their own homes is their business!
They will answering to only one person at the end and it won’t be you or me!  This is between God and them!!!

As far as Wal-mart supporting the gay org., so what!  They support alot of different things.  By not shopping with them you could be taking away money that goes to abused children, etc.  Sometimes the good out-weighs the bad!

I don’t believe that it is your place to tell others where to spend their money or how to live is it?  Isn’t that an example of a what another country was like?

Maybe God will punish me for thinking this way, but it will be me he is punishing, not you, won’t it?

If SAM WALTON was still alive no one would even here of it. He was a good christian man and had christian morals. (not like some of his offsprings.) I remember not long after he passed all the bibles, and all christian literature was taken off the shelfs. well, guess what happened??  Walmart stock dropped 25%.  some one picked up on it real quick because wasn’t long the bibles were back.  Now Wal-mart is supporting the most discusting life style on this earth.  some one better pick up real quick.  just remember what happened to Sodom and Gomorra.  and believe it or not ,,It’s my favorite place to shop.  (wonder why??)

I think that all of this has completely been blown out of proportion.  I am not a Walmart lover, but this whole thing seems to have started as nothing more than another reason for people to hate Walmart.  Furthermore, anyone who has stopped shopping at Walmart simply because of the fact obviously has serious hatred and discrimination against gay people.  Doesn’t Christianity teach people to love one another and not judge?

Be prepared Wal-mart, your sales are about to drop this weekend...As Christians, we do not reject homosexuals themselves as people, but the lifestyles they live. Therefore, for supporting them for the fact of them being homosexuals is lawlessness, immoral, and will ultimately lead to a world-wide boycott against your stores. Possibly not just this weekend, but for the continued future. God in his purity, love, and justice will not honor such gains.

BTW, for homosexuals who may read this...God loves you and came to set you free from the bondage this lifestyle besets you. As a man of God, I love you all as people, but disagree with the lifestyle you live. Your lifestyle does not equal who you are as a person made in the image of God. Get out of the violence, the bondage, and emptiness it brings you. Let God take over your life and see the wonderful abundant, and gracious true loving God that he really is.

I have been Wal Mart free since the September 2006 due to the support given to “PRIDE” and the gay and lesbian chamber of commerce.  It wasn’t easy but the experience has really made me think about where to spend my hard earned money.  My checkbook had multiple entries for Wal-Mart and now I have none.  As a result, I do find myself with extra cash each week.  I am in the process of searching for the out that Wal-Mart has created for themselves to make it OK for people in my situation to justify rekindling my relationship with them.  The following is the only printed excuse on the web I have found so far:

Respect for the Individual and Corporate Contributions
Last Updated: Tuesday, November 21, 2006

Respect for the individual is one of the core values that have made us into the company we are today.  We take pride in the fact that we treat every customer, every supplier and every member of our individual communities fairly and equally.

We are working hard to make our corporate contributions reflect the values of our customers, communities, and associates.  As Sam Walton said, “Each Wal-Mart store should reflect the values of its customers and support the vision they hold for their community.

Wal-Mart will not make corporate contributions to support or oppose highly controversial issues unless they directly relate to our ability to serve our customers.

Wal-Mart does not have a position on same sex marriage and we do not give preference to gay or lesbian suppliers.  Wal-Mart does have a strong commitment to diversity among our associates and against discrimination everywhere.

I’m not sure if this is what I’m looking for.

Its a store for crying out loud, let it be a store. No one needs a group of people protesting a store because they happened to have given $4.17 to a select group. Oh heavens, $4.17!!! The things they could do with $4.17!! By the way, what happened to being loving and accepting? When exactly did those morals disappear? I need to go find the person responsible.

Wow. As I sit here and read the posts in this thread all I can think about is how sad it makes me. I have no love for Wal-Mart, God knows there are plenty of reasons NOT to shop there. But to choose THIS reason? It only goes to prove that some people let their irrational hatred rob them of their common sense. I wish I could believe that it’s just that they are uninformed, but I can not. There is nothing sadder than people who choose not to see the truth. This is a silly waste of time and energy. Shame on all of us for lending it the credibility of our attention. We should all have better things to do.

I’m in for boycotting Wally world...Wal-Mart has pushed everyone around for too long by the way that they shut down the little guys-threatening to pull their accounts from warehouses if they sold to a different chain is not fair at all!
I worked for Wal-Mart and chose to leave due to their treatment of myself and a close friend. The last straw was the day I was pulled into the office and told by my supervisor that I was no longer allowed to read my Bible in the breakroom, because some people found it offensive that my friend and I held a Bible study on our breaks. I was young and naive and at that time, didn’t realize that I had grounds for a lawsuit (and it wouldn’t have been about the money, it would have been about protecting the rights of other Christian employees).
It’s time we stand up to Wally and tell them “NO MORE!”
If they want their money to go to support the homosexual agenda, that’s fine. But, I can guarantee that my money will not help them in any way to support that agenda. It might cost me a little bit more of my time and some gas money, but I will now shop at other stores!
So long Wal-Mart!

Yea, I have an agenda, but that agenda is not “hatred”. I don’t agree with the homosexual lifestyle, or endorse any store politician, or organization, etc, etc, that supports the homosexual movement. I am a Christian and I love everyone, no matter what they are, but I don’t have to agree with them and I have a choice to not finance their cause. That does not make me a bigot, but an American.
