Dirty Stores, Dirty Tricks?
Developing…
From Dirty Stores…
Glowing recent press aside, Wal-Mart stores are often noted for their dirtiness: cramped aisles, low lighting, overall dinginess. For example: “We’re not happy about the Wal-Mart going in there,” said Dawn Dwyer, 36, who has lived in a nearby neighborhood for nine years. “It’s filthy and not well kept up. The lines are very long. I don’t shop there. I don’t believe in their ethics.” [Detroit Free Press, Aug. 10, 2005]
To Dirty Tricks…?
Today Reuters reported that Wal-Mart CEO Lee Scott has “started to drop hints about a secret spin strategy” to counter criticism of the company’s business model. That’s right: a secret spin strategy. And last week at a conference with Wall Street analysts, Scott said “We have a strategy to deal with that. It is not a strategy that we’re going to publicize or let you know.”
Their new “strategy”: Red State.org
Wal-Mart Watchers are buzzing about this development, some calling it the new online component of the “secret spin strategy”. (And no, we aren’t talking their new, closed-comment “blog”
So what lies ahead? It wouldn’t be the first time Wal-Mart has used its online power in questionable ways, and we’ll keep talking about that here. Do dirty tricks go hand-in-hand with dirty stores? Read our new bullying report and check back soon for more on this topic.

It’s not surprising that Wal-Mart would hire another shady character to run their jump-the-shark blog. Are Jeff Gannon and Joseph Steffen next?
Krempasky’s the lowlife who launched Rathergate.com last year to smear Dan Rather and CBS… typical Wal-Mart modus operandi. Does Edelman realize that this guy’s baggage is going to be a liability for them and their clients?

I have never been in a Walmart which was dirty. I have seen some that weren’t as organized as well as they could have bee, but they were the exception.

Wal-Mart has the biggest PR guns in the industry (Edelman, Fleishman-Hillard, and Burson-Marsteller) and they choose this kook to manage their online presence?
Check out his previous work at Free Republic (search: “Ritwngr") and Red State.

Ben , you complain about lowlife the launch websites just to smear people and companies, why have you never said one ill word about this website. The only purpose it was launched was so that the unions could try to get their misinformation out to the masses. But anymore, it looks like its 50/50 the amount of wal-mart haters compared to the wal-mart supporters. This is one easy way for the supporters to come to one location and see the garbage being spun about wal-mart each week.

Steve,
Why do you love Wal-Mart so much?

Steve: there’s a big difference. Wal-Mart Watch puts out accurate and credible information that withstands media scrutiny. Krempasky and his wingnut allies just throw a bunch of mud at the wall to see what sticks. It’s good to know that you’re able to use this site as a resource… there are probably a lot of reporters find it similarly valuable.

Wow, Ben. Accurate and credible aren’t words that I would associate with this site in any way, shape or form. Wal-Mart Watch contantly takes quotations out of context and spins anything Wal-Mart does or says negatively. I don’t know anything about any new PR people that Wal-Mart has hired, but I’ve read blogs on this site since its inception and this place is nothing more than a shameless smear campaign run by a union that is desperately trying to increase its membership.

Randy, I just 1 of over a million employees that are getting fed up with the constant crap put out by the unions to try to make Wal-mart look bad. Like I keep saying, they keep complaining that Wal-mart is doing enough down south, but I have yet to see a single dollar from the UFCW donated. Why don’t they use the money they are going to spend on that stupid national awareness week they are promoting and actually do some good with it. It would put them in a better light ,, but then who cares about the rest of nation....

Ben, I think you and your other liberal friends must be smoking a little of the wacky weed again if you think this website puts out credible and accurate info…

I’m sure UFCW has donated money, why don’t you just look it up instead of asking other people to do it for you…

Randy,
according to their website they have donated $100,000. The millions they spend every month on advertisements and such is nothing compared to this little bit spent.
And not to get to far off topic, “Voters OK Wal-Marts; ex-fugitive advances
Mark Shaffer
Republic Flagstaff Bureau

WINSLOW - Wal-Mart Corp. won two more major battles in rural Arizona on Tuesday night, as voters in Winslow and Benson approved rezonings for the construction of Supercenters.”
It looks like when the people get to vote on Wal-mart, they don’t always go along with their local leaders who could have another agenda in mind other then what is good for the community.

I posted my hello to Michael Krempansky on my board - AOL - personal finance - WMT.
I won’t repeat it here.
It is there.

Ok - I saw his picture on the link.
33-34 years old, in Washington - a slight overbite, a beard, and bags under his eyes.
That’s not a realization - it’s simply too much time on the computer.
Nonetheless - very smart - the eyes tell alot.
In Washington.
Let’s see if Mike can simply post the truth - without spin.
If he can - it would be this “Mike’s” definition of capitalism, as a taxpaying supporter of Washington - and a Walmart wkr.

I scanned articles - I’ve scanned boards - and I’ve scanned quotes.
Here’s a simple lesson - for those who do not yet know.
There is “strategy, and there is spin.”
There’s only 1 truth though. The truth is easy to tell, and needs no spin.
All the rest costs a ton of money; without the truth, though.

You’ve gotten what you’ve wanted - Mike.
I’ve thrown the first volley.
Set the bar.
Now you can respond.
I would caution you though - don’t be complacent, because I just may know (more than you).

I’ve red on more board that I didn’t read prior.
A quote from you - “Finally - for obvious reasons, I will not always have the freedom to disclose my client list publicly.”
(Paraphrased).
From me - that’s very disconcerting.

And one more thing.
You’ve got the Walmart movie coming out in November, the conference in November, Michael Reitz, and you. You’ve got hurricane Katrina, the response; and me.
The author of the Walmart Workers Bill of Rights.
As I defined it - it will be mutually beneficial to shareholders, associates, and managers.
AKA my definition of capitalism.
See if you’ve been on enough sides of the coin (not just 1), to be able to do that .....
Without spin.

I have a laughable story that you guys may enjoy. I have been a Walmart shopper for years and had an experience at a Walmart here in Oklahoma last Thursday night that was so unbelieveable that my husband and I were just sooo shocked. It was over Walmarts customer service and rude employees and we were made the bad guys instead of fixing the situation. It is a lengthy story and would like to post it but I don’t want to take up too much space. It is a shocker! If you would like the story you can email me at shelbert1@cox.net and I will tell you the whole story. I am on the war path of Walmart now and plan on taking my story to the district manager and maybe even corporate. Unbelieveable!!

Rob. Just a little constructive criticism.
First of all. Your writing is difficult to read at best. The following is what you wrote: “wal-mart in some area work there people shrot handey and wont them to do work of two.if you ask them for extra money they tell you did not go extra mile.”
I think this is what you were trying to say. “In some areas Walmart is short handed and they want you to do the work of two. If you ask them for extra money, they tell you that you did not go the extra mile.”
I recommend that you go back and read what you wrote. If that doesn’t work then type what your responses using Microsoft Word. It will point out or correct your mistakes. Then Copy and Paste it to the walmart watch forum.
I have never been in a Walmart where it looked like they were working too hard. I have never seen anyone at Walmart actually sweat. They tend to keep busy, but they are not overworked. Good, hard back breaking work is good for you. I would guess that I am considerably older than you and I am retired, but I still go out and do hard work around the house and occasionally help neighbors. It won’t hurt you.

From This Is True (http://www.thisistrue.com)
DOWNTRODDEN WORKERS: The United Food and Commercial Workers union is
protesting the working conditions at the Wal-Mart store in Henderson,
Nev. The store employees aren’t represented by the union, so the union
hired temporary workers to walk a picket line out front. The union-
hired protestors are paid $6 per hour ($8.00 for the supervisor), and
do not earn benefits. When a reporter visited them they were standing
in 104-degree heat, without shade, and said they are allowed two 15-
minute breaks per shift. One protestor said he rides three buses to get
to the job, and nets about $35 per day. A Wal-Mart spokesman said the
average pay for Wal-Mart workers in Nevada is $10.17 per hour. “We have
a good insurance program, and every associate, even part-timers, are
eligible for the 401k,” he said. (Las Vegas Weekly) ...Not to mention
there are no union dues subtracted from their checks.
