Edelman Paid Critic Hates Whole Foods Corn
Remember Marshall Manson, the PR genius who brought you the “Wal-Marting Across America” flog disaster (PDF)? Here’s his latest attempt at blogger outreach:

Ever walked into a Whole Foods or another high priced grocery store in August looking for some fresh corn and discovered that the corn is from someplace far off?
It happens to me every August. I live near Washington, DC, and when summer comes, there’s nothing better than our local corn. Trouble is, you can’t find it in the grocery stores anymore. Check the labels:
They’re all trucking or floating the stuff in from a million miles away.
Wal-Mart gets it.
Last fall, Wal-Mart announced a plan to try and purchase more of produce from local farmers. Since then, they’ve been spotlighting a local farm each month.
This month, it’s North Dakota’s Tri-Campbell Farms.
The program is also another great example of Wal-Mart’s commitment to the communities where it operates. By purchasing locally, Wal-Mart helps local economies.

And here’s the original announcement from last fall:

Hope you’re having a good week.

The corn may be local but everything else is from China or Asia!

I know, people. We get it now. It took me awhile to figure this out. Apparently, I am being paid from some secret Wal-Mart slush fund. Here’s the kicker: I’m not even aware of it!
I don’t know why we didn’t get this before? That is, all people who post in support of Wal-Mart or capitalism in general are paid bloggers who really don’t believe what they write and are managed by Bentonville. The people who post in opposition to Wal-Mart and capitalism are dedicated souls, who stay up all hours posting out of the goodness of their hearts and in support of their fellow worker, and for no compensation.
Only people who support Wal-Mart are paid. Those who oppose Wal-Mart are honest volunteers with a CAUSE.
Did I get that straight, now?

Did I get that straight, now?
Nope, sorry, Ellis. The fact is Bentonville is paying some bloggers. So your donating your ((cough)) expertise to the pro Wal-Mart cause simply means you’re being used.
There is no capital in your brand of capitalism. Sad, really.

How far is it from North Dakota to Washington, DC? It looks close to me, only about 6 inches, but then again I only have a pocket map, It may be farther if I got out my BIG road atlas.

So Charles, I mean Marshall Manson wants us to believe that only Wal-Mart has fresh corn and that if you live in Washington DC, the closest place to get that fresh corn is from North Dakota.
Is he a paid blogger? WHO would pay for such bullshit?
And did everyone notice he’s a VICE PRESIDENT!
Didn’t Charlie try to brainwash his followers?

EllisW,
Like I’ve said before, if I’m a PAID blogger, they must have forgot to send me my checks. Just another example of what idiots these people are, to believe that everyone who supports capitalism and the rights of businesses to operate it’s as they see fits their business model, (in this case Wal-Mart), must be a Wal-Mart agent. While they, post everyday, because they somehow are concerned about the welfare of the poor Wal-Mart associates. They don’t shop there and don’t work there, yet, spend hours on this site for principle only. Makes me wonder if they do this for all other businesses they don’t frequent!!!
IRONHEADED,
Yeah, you talk about your buddy Charlie, that poor misguided unfortunate guy, that you think should be understood and given the benefits he deserves as a citizen of this country. Yup, he’s your kind of man!!!

You can say what you want about it, but this is the same person. I think that the others are obvious as well but I could be mistaken on them. But another Bob in, and, another Paul in, are for sure, one and the same person.

Jay,
I think IRONHEAD Dave, is beyond the point of no return, in the sanity department. First off, because he and others, are anti-Wal-Mart, he deduces that anyone on the other side of the issues, MUST therefore be pro-Wal-Mart or a Wal-Mart Lover. He cannot distingush the fact, that we are trying to protect capitalism and the free market system, not Wal-Mart per se and the only reason we talk about Wal-Mart at all, is because this is an anti-Wal-Mart site. If it were a site on Kohls or Target, then we would be talking about them. And, if it were a generic anti-business site, we would be talking about business in general. Actually, it is a union sponcered site, therefore, it is a pro-union site and they can’t stand the fact that they are slowly dying!!!
Our main point is, that this is a free society and a business should be allowed to operate, without outside interferrence, as long as they obey the laws of the land. Saying that a company is WRONG, because they don’t pay the wages or give the benefits these people WISH, is not justification for persecution in a free country!!! Free speach is one thing, but, trying to ‘back door’ the system, is quite another and that is what this site is all about, twisting Wal-mart’s arm, until it says “UNCLE” (typical union tactic)!!! Too bad for them, it’s not working, so they try to discredit, call names, etc., those who disagree with them, they can’t see that they are fighting a losing battle.

“...as long as they obey the laws of the land.”
That wouldn’t completely clean up the mess that is Wal-Mart but it’s a start.

U.S.: A New Weapon for Wal-Mart: A War Room
by Michael Barbaro, The New York Times
November 1st, 2005
Wal-Mart’s aggressive new posture is a departure from its tradition of relying on an internal staff to manage the company’s image. The war room, which is part of a larger Wal-Mart effort to portray itself as more worker-friendly and environmentally conscious, runs counter to the philosophy of the chain’s founder, Sam Walton. Believing that public relations was a waste of time and money, the penny-pinching Mr. Walton would not likely have hired a public relations firm like Edelman, Wal-Mart’s choice to operate its war room.
The contract went to Edelman, which assigned its top two Washington operatives to the account. Wal-Mart would not say what it is paying Edelman, nor would it allow interviews with the war room staff.

Behind the Scenes of Wal-Mart’s PR Charm Offensive
Wall Street Journal has a must-read piece about Wal-Mart’s and Edelman’s efforts to remake the company’s image. Some highlights:
· “For the last 15 months, [Edelman] has been directing a campaign it calls “Candidate Wal-Mart.”
· “This is not a public-relations campaign,” says Edelman’s Michael Deaver. “It’s a win-or-lose campaign. And if you’ve been involved in a presidential campaign, that’s the way you look at things.”
· In 2005, Wal-Mart “heard pitches from three PR firms chosen as finalists—Edelman, APCO Worldwide and DCI Group. Messrs. Dach and Deaver of Edelman described a campaign with all the trappings of a U.S. presidential bid. A war room of publicists would respond quickly to attacks or adverse news. Operatives would be assigned to drum up popular support for Wal-Mart via Internet blogs and grass-roots initiatives. Skeptical outside groups, such as environmentalists, would be recruited to team up with Wal-Mart.”
· “This summer, Wal-Mart decided to bring Mr. Dach in-house. Mr. Dach was already so intimately involved in planning that he sometimes heard of key developments within Wal-Mart prior to the company’s own senior PR staffers...”

WalMart- So we are paying bloggers in a ‘war room’ to respond to WalMart critics. But none of them post anything here at this site.
