General Grant and General Lee Join Sides In New Wal-Mart Watch Video

Ulysses S. Grant and Robert E. Lee don’t agree very often. But they do agree that Wal-Mart has no place at a Civil War battlefield.

Wal-Mart is currently in the process of applying for a permit to build a 141,487-square-foot supercenter on the land adjacent to the battlefield in Orange County, Virginia, a site already served by four Wal-Mart stores within a 20-mile radius. There is already firm opposition from local community groups, as well as a host of national groups including the Civil War Preservation Trust, the National Historic Preservation and the National Parks Conservation Association.

The Civil War Preservation Trust is leading the charge against Wal-Mart, and they’ve made a great website full of info on the fight.

This is what you get from the Best that wants to be everywhere. Perhaps, if communities had fought harder, and Wal-Mart had been denied buiding permits--we would not have so many Wal-Mart’s today.
I’m sorry but Orange County, Virginia already has 4 Wal-mart’s within a 20 mile radius. Why didn’t they stop at least 3 Wal-Mart’s years ago? Why keeps giving Wal-Mart permits to build? It is high time more communities stood up and STOPPED THIS BEAST FROM WANTING TO BE EVERYWHERE!

By the way for those who don’t know there hasn’t been anything in the local papers here as to Wal-Mart going into Tupper Lake. The news media has reported nothing lately. But if Wal-Mart were going into Tupper Lake they certainly would want to keep it as quiet as possible.
By the way, Wal-Mart has also sued the village of Ticonderoga. New York.  They want their property value reduced by 3 MILLION DOLLARS. Great company huh?
Over 10 years ago the Ticonderoga officials gave Wal-Mart a PILOT or “payment in lieu of taxes.” This essentially means that the taxes on Wal-Mart’s property will gradually increase over a 10 year time period. It will take 10 years BEFORE WAL-MART WILL PAY THEIR FULL TAXES ON THEIR PROPERTY! Well--their PILOT is now expired and guess how Wal-Mart repays the officials who gave them the PILOT to begin with? Yes--that’s right--they’re suing Ticonderoga to get their property value reduced!! The Beast of Bentonville strikes again!!
You pro Wal-Mart’ers can have this company. You can’t get much more sleezy that that.

Jane,

“By the way for those who don’t know”

How would we know?  There has been nothing in the media lately!!

“But if Wal-Mart were going into Tupper Lake they certainly would want to keep it as quiet as possible.”

So, now Wal-Mart controls the media too, right?

So, now Wal-Mart controls the media too, right?

They used to, a lot more than now with the Anti Wal-Mart Movement, the internet, etc. but they still have ways of controlling media. One of the advantages of being BIG!

The image Wal-Mart’s expansion brings to my mind comes from the first Terminator movie where the tank-tracked killer robots ground their way across a bed of charred human bones, skulls crushing, pulverized to dust.

Tupper Lake, Tupperware, who gives a rip?

Face it kiddos, once the Junior Senator gets elected, all the little fringe groups (including this one) will merely be an afterthought…

Conceding defeat already, bb? As Ron White would say:

There’s a lot of quit in that boy!

Should Obama be elected I won’t gloat. I may gloat a little, however, if I see a Democratic ruling-majority in the House and a filibuster-proof Senate. Watching the Republican party meltdown has been the most fun of this campaign.

...once the Junior Senator gets elected...

I didn’t say what he would get elected to, Mr. Kenny Wordtwister—it could be another four years representing the Land of Lincoln in the U.S. Senate…

Either way, it’s up to the people to decide.

bbrd,

Ken reminds me of my father, who used to always ‘vote’ Democrat (he was a union man), but every time the Democrat won the presidency, about 3 to 6 months later, he would complain about how stupid the ‘voters’ were for electing “That idiot”!!  Wonder what Ken will be saying in about 8 months, if Obama gets elected to the presidency!!

For our pal Kenbo, it’s purely a hate/revenge thing—you could put a Swiffer mop in a suit against any Repubican, and guys like Mr. V would be casting their ballots for the mop!

Aww, come on guys. Let’s be fair. One of the first political comments I made here was to say that no matter who wins, it won’t be George W. Bush!

bb, the term for what I am is a Yellow dog democrat: which means I would vote for a yellow dog before I would vote Republican.

Nice play on words, but do you know what a “blue dog Democrat” is?

Bone-up on that for a while, and then we’ll debate…

Ken V: I guess the next McCain camPAIN tactic will be the “Stop the Mop” strategy...[referring to a Swiffer in a suit remark.]
