Group To Keep An Eye On: Workforce Fairness Institute
The National Journal’s Under The Influence Blog brings our attention to a new 501(c)6 group called the “Workforce Fairness Institute,” whose sole purpose is to fight the Employee Free Choice Act (EFCA).
The National Journal tells us:
Packer would not identify the WFI’s funders. But sources familiar with its creation speculate that such big retailers as Wal-Mart and Home Depot—a which are high-profile opponents of EFCA—are likely among the group’s donors. One source says the WFI is trying to raise as much as $10 million for its operations.
Presumably, Wal-Mart and other companies are spending early while preparing for a possible Obama administration and strong Democratic majorities in both the House and Senate - which are expected to make a push for the legislation which, of course, would make it easier for Wal-Mart workers to form unions and negotiate contracts for higher wages and better benefits.
The WFI website is savetheelection.org, and the featured video is a fake news broadcast which for the first minute or so openly implies that the presidential election is being taken away. Halfway through it tells us we’re talking about a possible change in unionization rules.
But - the website reminds us that WFI (just like Wal-Mart!) is “NOT anti-Union.” Which is reassuring.
We’ll do our best to investigate WFI’s funding disclosure laws, and Wal-Mart’s role in the venture. As usual....we’ll be watching.

Chicago Thugs, Misfits
Imagine if a U.S. president regularly palled around with a wise guy like Tony Soprano.
I don’t think the American people would stand for having that man as president, no matter how much Chris Matthews says the man puts a “thrill up my leg.”
Obama was not just an associate of Rezko, he was a close friend. Obama has admitted as such.
In fact, Obama admitted that Rezko introduced him to Chicago politics. Obama was Rezko’s protégé.
When Obama needed to buy a million-dollar home in Chicago so he and his wife could live with the “rich” people — Rezko provided part of the funding to make the deal happen.
But Rezko wasn’t the only bad guy Obama hung with in the gang of Chicago thugs and misfits who backed him.
We all know about terrorist William Ayers. Ayers is responsible for the killing of innocent Americans and police officers.
He won’t repent either. Ayers said in recent years he should have done more.
Obama’s defense? He says he was just 8 years old when Ayers took part in the bombings.
And that’s true, Senator. But you are now 47 years old, and you still call the man a friend. You even launched your political career in this terrorist’s home.
It gets worse.
Obama says he became a Christian after meeting the Rev. Jeremiah Wright.
For 20 years, he sat in the reverend’s church and didn’t say a word as Wright attacked America, claimed the U.S. government created AIDS to kill blacks, claimed the U.S. deserved 9/11 when its “chickens came home to roost,” and said even worse things.
Obama said he never once heard the Rev. Wright say anything so radical.
Do you believe him? If you do, I have a bridge I want to sell you in Brooklyn

Watchdog Group Presses for Obama Donor List
Monday, October 27, 2008
By: Dave Eberhart
Judicial Watch contends that the Obama campaign continues to stonewall on listing its many donors, a step that would go a long way toward clearing up whether the Democratic presidential candidate is accepting unlawful contributions from overseas.
Sen. Barack Obama has raised about $3.3 million from contributors who did not list a home state or who designated their state with an abbreviation that did not match one of the 50 states or U.S. territories, The Associated Press reported, citing records from the Federal Election Commission.
The $3.3 million total does not include donors who have given less than $200 and whose contributions do not have to be itemized. Some of that money also could have come from overseas. About half of Obama’s $455 million in contributions so far are un-itemized.
The campaign does not identify those donors, the AP report said.
Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton said, “While the evidence suggests illegal foreign contributions are flooding into Obama’s campaign coffers, we have no idea as to the extent of the problem because Senator Obama refuses to divulge the names of all of his donors.”
Fitton said that, when Obama campaign spokesman David Axelrod was asked about the decision to keep these donor names secret, he replied, “We’re probably more forthcoming about disclosure than anyone.”
But the president of the watchdog group countered: “Not true. While John McCain has had problems of his own for allegedly accepting foreign donations, to his credit, Senator McCain does publish the names of all donors to his presidential campaign on his Internet site, regardless of the size of the contribution.”
Fitton said he believes that the Obama campaign appears to be playing fast and loose with campaign finance laws, and he said it has to stop.
The FEC should investigate these allegations immediately, and the Obama campaign should publicly list the source of every single campaign contribution, Fitton said.
“Frankly, it is suspicious that these names have not already been made public,” he said. “There is something deeply unsettling about the fact that foreign nationals can so easily corrupt our presidential election through illegal contributions, while American service men and women stationed overseas may be deprived of the opportunity to even vote.”

John McCain has proved to be Jack Abramoff’s best friend.
As Chairman of the Senate Indian Affairs Committee from 2005-2007, McCain was instrumental in suppressing evidence of Jack Abramoff’s role in directing illegal foreign payoffs to ranking members of the Republican Party.
McCain also did a big favor for Abramoff’s principal partners in crime, Grover Norquist and Ralph Reed , identified in the 2006 Committee report as key players in the Choctaw Indian and Marianas Island scandals. Not one of the principal witnesses in the matter were compelled to publicly testify by McCain’s panel. The Committee also sequestered 99 percent of the documents it received, and these remain locked away, unseen by the public, in Senate files.
But there’s much more to the scandal than the Indian tribes rip-off McCain did disclose. The strand that runs through all the Abramoff-McCain relationship is foreign money – many, many millions – that Jack, Grover and Ralph funneled to GOP leaders from some of the world’s worst bad guys as part of a foreign influence-peddling operation.
Until Jack was finally indicted on August 11, 2005, he did some truly sinister deals with a long list of bad guys, from al-Qaeda bankers, to Russian intelligence officers, to a South Asian leader involved with rogue nuclear programs. McCain’s role was to limit the disclosures and the political damage that still threaten to destroy the GOP’s foreign funding base and the party’ hopes of ever regaining control in Washington.

McCain Still Receives Big $$$s from Keating S&L;Figure Linked to BCCI and Organized Crime
Posted by leveymg
Thu Aug 21st 2008,
A lot of people are familiar with S&L;crook Charles Keating’s illegal contributions to John McCain in the 1980s. What most don’t know, however, was that Keating was implicated in the BCCI takeover of a number of S&Ls;, including his own. With me, so far?
Carl Lindner, an Ohio billionaire with CIA and underworld connections who owned Chiquita Bananas, was Charles Keating’s original partner, banker, and mentor. Lindner got Keating wrapped up with schemes involving the usual cast of BCCI characters, shady Saudi bankers, the Bush family, and Iran-Contra money laundering. Keating was always a sort of pass-through guy, without any real money of his own. But, a lot of money flowed through Keating to McCain and his wife, Cindy, in an Arizona real estate scam. Lindner who was recently convicted of financing Right-wing death squads in Colombia, is still giving big, dirty campaign checks to McCain. Now, that’s a story that the American people need to hear.

The public should get a view into the background of Lindner, Keating and McCain, which essentially boils down to big Mafia money that has flowed into the GOP and various extreme Rightist groups around the world since Meyer Lansky made a deal with the Republicans in the mid-1940s. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~leveymg~~~~~~~NOTE: It shoulod be noted that Carl Linder is from the battleround state of Ohio, which is in much dispute presently. BTW, I forgot to mention that Ohio is ALSO the home of DIEBOLD,remember them?~~~~~~~~Diebold
Diebold, Inc.
Founded August 1859
Headquarters Green, Ohio, US
Diebold, Inc. is a United States-based security systems corporation that is engaged primarily in the sale, manufacture, installation and service of self-service transaction systems (such as ATMs), electronic and physical security products (including vaults and currency processing systems), voting machines, and software and integrated systems for global financial and commercial markets. Diebold is the largest U.S. manufacturer of ATMs.
Diebold was incorporated under the laws of the State of Ohio in August 1876, and is headquartered in the Akron-Canton area; its mailing address is the city of North Canton, but its physical address is located in the city of Green.
In March 2008 United Technologies Corporation, a large engineering and defense conglomerate, announced it had made a $2.63 billion bid to buy Diebold, which was later rejected as too low. In October 2008 UTC announced it was breaking off acquisition talks.
Controversy
For criticisms of the former Diebold Election Systems, see Premier Election Solutions#Security issues.
In August 2003, Walden O’Dell, then the chief executive of Diebold, announced that he had been a top fund-raiser for President George W. Bush and had sent a get-out-the-funds letter to 100 wealthy and politically inclined friends in the Republican Party, to be held at his home in a suburb of Columbus, Ohio. When assailed by critics for the conflict of interest, he pointed out that the company’s election machines division is run out of Texas by a registered Democrat. Nonetheless, he vowed to lower his political profile lest his personal actions harm the company.
In December 2005, O’Dell resigned following reports that the company was facing securities fraud litigation surrounding charges of INSIDER trading.
In March 2007, it was reported by the Associated Press that Diebold was considering divesting itself of its voting machine subsidiary because it was “widely seen as tarnishing the company’s reputation”.
In August 2007, Wikipedia Scanner found that edits via the company’s IP addresses occurred to Diebold’s Wikipedia article, removing criticisms of the company’s products, references to its CEO’s fund-raising for President Bush and other negative criticism from the Wikipedia page about the company in November 2005.~~~~~~~~~Wikipedia

Notice to All Employees
As of November 5, 2008, if President Obama is officially elected into office, our company will instill a few new policies which are in keeping with his new, inspiring issues of change and fairness:
1. All salespeople will be pooling their sales and bonuses into a common pool that will be divided equally between all of you. This will serve to give those of you who are underachieving a “fair shake.”
2. All low level workers will be pooling their wages, includi ng overtime, into a common pool, dividing it equally amongst yourselves. This will help those who are “too busy for overtime” to reap the rewards from those who have more spare time and can work extra hours.
3. All top management will now be referred to as “the government.” We will not participate in this “pooling” experience because the law doesn’t apply to us.
4. The “government” will give eloquent speeches to all employees every week, encouraging it’s workers to continue to work hard “for the good of all.”
5. The employees will be thrilled with these new policies because it’s “good to spread the wealth.” Those of you who have underachieved will finally get an opportunity; those of you who have worked hard and had success will feel more “patriotic.”
6. The last few people who were hired should clean out their desks. Don’t feel bad, though, because President Obama will give you free healthcare, free handouts, free oil for heating your home, free foodstamps, and he’ll let you stay in your home for as long as you want even if you can’t pay your mortgage. If you appeal directly to our Democratic Congress, you might even get a free flatscreen TV and a coupon for free haircuts (shouldn’t all Americans be entitled to nice looking hair?) !!!
If for any reason you are not happy with the new policies, you may want to rethink your vote on November 4th.

L.A. Times Suppresses Obama Videotape
Tuesday, October 28, 2008 12:51 PM
By: Jim Meyers Article Font Size
The Los Angeles Times is refusing to release a videotape showing Barack Obama attending an event in Chicago honoring a Palestinian activist who formerly served as a spokesman for Yasser Arafat.
The 2003 event was a farewell party for Rashid Khalidi, who was leaving the University of Chicago to take a position at Columbia University in New York.
Obama, then an Illinois state senator, lavished praise on Khalidi at the party, which was sponsored by the Arab American Action Network. So did unrepentant terrorist Bill Ayers, according to Andrew C. McCarthy, contributing editor at National Review, who disclosed Khalidi’s link to “master terrorist” Arafat.
Back in April, Peter Wallsten of the Los Angeles Times wrote about the party and disclosed: “The event was videotaped, and a copy of the tape was obtained by The Times.”
But as the Boston Herald noted about the videotape, “The Los Angeles Times refuses to release it.”
McCarthy observed: “Is there just a teeny-weenie chance that this was an evening of Israel-bashing Obama would find very difficult to explain? Could it be that The Times, a pillar of the Obamedia, is covering for its guy?”
Khalidi himself spoke at the event, praising Obama and telling the crowd that he deserved their help in winning a U.S. Senate seat. “You will not have a better senator under any circumstances,” he said.
In the 1970s, Khalidi taught at a university in Beirut, Lebanon, and often spoke on behalf of Arafat’s Palestinian Liberation Organization.
In 1990s, he advised the Palestinian delegation during peace negotiations. And in 2000, Khalidi and his wife held a fundraiser for Obama’s unsuccessful congressional bid.
The following year, a social service organization whose board was headed by Khalidi’s wife received a $40,000 grant from a local charity that included Obama among its board of directors, the Times reported in April.
The Times disclosed: “At Khalidi’s 2003 farewell party, one young Palestinian American recited a poem accusing the Israeli government of terrorism in its treatment of Palestinians and sharply criticizing U.S. support of Israel. If Palestinians cannot secure their own land, she said, ‘then you will never see a day of peace.’
“One speaker likened ‘Zionist settlers on the West Bank’ to Osama bin Laden, saying both had been ‘blinded by ideology.’”
Regarding anti-Israeli rhetoric, McCarthy wrote that Obama “wouldn’t possibly let something like that pass without a spirited defense of the Israel he tells us he so stanchly supports, would he?
“I guess to answer that question, we’d have to know what was on the tape.”

A little current update on the Ohio, Carl Linder/Charles Keating connection mentioned upthread~~~~~~~McCain Money News Roundup for Oct. 28, 2008
McClatchy Newspapers’ Greg Gordon filed an interesting report yesterday that appears to debunk John McCain’s claim that, after the embarrassment of the Keating Five scandal, he never again pressured regulators on behalf of a friend. In fact, the story says McCain “promoted an Arizona land swap that would’ve benefited a former mentor and partner of the scandal’s central figure.”
The story details McCain’s efforts in the late 1990s to forge a land swap with the U.S. Forest Service that would have benefited the owners of the Spur Cross Ranch, which included a company controlled by former Charles Keating associate Carl Lindner Jr.
Gordon notes that, before the deal fell through, “McCain and an aide pushed for the exchange in more than a half dozen sometimes-testy letters and phone calls up and down the Forest Service’s hierarchy, according to former agency officials and correspondence. McCain’s office even circulated draft legislation that would have overridden the agency’s objection to surrendering national forest land.”~McCain’s Lobbyists.com~~~~~~~Note: For more on Carl Lindner,go upthread to earlier post,or: leveymg’s Journal - THE CRIMES AND COVERUPS OF JOHN McCAIN, “REFORMER” Jun 3, 2008 ...
