Is Wal-Mart Good Or Bad For America?
MSNBC Democratic Presidential Debate
Orangeburg, SC
April 26, 2007
BRIAN WILLIAMS: Senator Clinton, overall, is Wal-Mart a good thing or a bad thing for the United States of America?
SENATOR CLINTON: Well, it’s a mixed blessing.
WILLIAMS: How so?
CLINTON: Well because when Wal-Mart started, it brought goods into rural areas, like rural Arkansas where I was happy to live for 18 years. And it gave people a chance to stretch their dollar further. But as they grew much bigger, though, they have raised serious questions about the responsibility of corporations and how they need to be a leader when it comes to providing health care and having safe working conditions and not discriminating on the basis of sex or race or any other category. Brian, this is all part, though, of how this Administration and corporate America today don’t see middle class and working Americans. They are invisible. They don’t understand that if you’re a family that can’t get health care, you’re really hurting. But to the corporate elite and to the Adminstration and the White House, you’re invisible. If you can’t afford college, you’re invisible. So I think we need to get both public sector and private sector leadership to start stepping up and being responsible and taking care of people.
WILLIAMS: Senator, thank you.

Interestingly dull. Wal-Mart represents all that is wrong with conservative capitalism, and Hillary’s response was both weak and it did not address the Chinese workers living in slavery because of Wal-Mart.

Hillary’s response was both weak...
I agree, Tony, but not too bad when you consider Hillary was the first woman to serve on Wal-Mart’s board of directors. She also returned a $5,000 campaign contribution from Wal-Mart.
Not enough to get me to vote for her, but a couple of steps in the right direction.

Do you suppose her answer had something to do with the fact that she has received more campaign contributions from the unions than Walmart?

Hilary sat on Wal-Mart’s board of directors for years. Her firm, the Rose law firm, got legal work from Sam Walton. Sam Walton, though a conservative Republican, donated large sums of money for Bill Clinton’s campaigns for governor of Arkansas. Wal-Mart had the EXACT same practices during Hilary’s time on the board. They did EXACTLY the same thing, albeit on a slightly smaller scale. When she was on the board, from 1986 to 1992, “the Clintons also benefited financially from Wal-Mart. Hillary Clinton was paid $18,000 each year she served on the board, plus $1,500 for each meeting she attended. By 1993 she had accumulated at least $100,000 in Wal-Mart stock, according to Bill Clinton’s federal financial disclosure that year. The Clintons also flew for free on Wal-Mart corporate planes 14 times in 1990 and 1991 in preparation for Bill Clinton’s 1992 presidential bid.”
During Clinton’s tenure, Wal-Mart remained non-union, opened its first SuperCenters and became the largest retail chain in the nation. It purchased from 25%-30% of its’ goods outside the US.
“Employes grew from 170,000 to 371,000
Sales grew from $11.09 billion to $43.86 billion
Net Income grew from $450 million to $1.60 billion
Retail Space grew from 53 million sq. ft. to well over 110 million sq ft.
How do you spell H-Y-P-O-C-R-I-T-E? Here’s how: H-I-L-L-A-R-Y.

THIS MAY BE A FIRST
This may be the first time I’ve ever agreed with anything “Nick in” has had to say.
How do you spell disingenuous? H-I-L-L-A-R-Y.
Let’s see now… Bush...Clinton...Bush...? Does anyone really want to keep this pattern going?
You know the Clintons are lying when you see their lips moving. How about the fund raiser for Hillary that was held at a “gentleman’s” house who made his fortunes producing Hip Hop records. It was OK for Hillary to accept the $800,000 raised at that event, while at the same time she was at Rutgers University denouncing the words of Don Imus. Apparently Hillary has never listened to the lyrics of too many Hip Hop songs. I’m also waiting for the Rev. Al Shapton and Jesse Jackson to come down hard on the Hip-Hop Music industry. Until they do, Don Imus is my hero!
Hillary stands as much of a chance of getting elected president as Don Imus has of getting elected president of CBS.

I had to call my cardiologist. I almost went into arrest! I can’t believe that you agreed with me on something! Progress!
Now, I can’t tell if you are being sarcastic regarding Imus. Let me tell you what I think about him. His show sucked, he is boring, nobody listened to him and he annoyed me. That said, I agree 100% with his right to say what he said and I think CBS showed a lack of backbone. If his advertisers jumped ship (which they did) and CBS fired him for this reason (they did) they should have had the balls to come out and say so and not hide behind fake morality.
The greater question is this: was Imus telling a lie when he described the Rutgers women as “nappy headed hos”? In the aftermath of Imus’ firing, all we heard were stupid statements supporting this team. They were “intelligent, beautfiul, heroic young women”, “wonderful scholar-athletes”, “heroes”, etc. With all the ass kissing going on, I was suprised the major media didn’t wind up with chapped lips. Before anyone condemns Imus, I want to know:
What were the actual SAT scores of each woman on the Rutgers team?
What are their current GPA’s and what are their majors?
Have they ever used the word “hos” or other inflammatory words? (My answer would be YES)
Can they all put two sentences together?
Why do we honor college athletes and not college academic achievers?
This nation has gotten so soft and weak as a result of liberal policies and feminist social control. People call each other “bitch” and other names and they laugh about it. Someone else calls them a “ho” and they cry in their pillow, take Prozac and generally fall apart.
As for Hillary, yes Screwed, we do agree. She is a hypocrite. She has always been given a free pass by the media. This is THE major reason why the Social Democrats pulled out of the Fox Debates. None of the candidates wants to be in a position where they have to answer tough questions. For example, how do we pay for our $45 trillion unfunded Social Security & Medicare costs? Where will the money come from? Hillary Clinton has made a career out of avoiding tough questions. If she had ANY credibility, she would sit down for a live interview with an unknown interviewer. Who it was wouldn’t be important. What WOULD be important is that the interviewer asks her at least 20 tough questions for which she has not been prepared, totally unscripted. You will then see the real Hillary-cold, ruthless, selfish, power hungry, anti-Semite, anti-military, pro-abortion, supporter of Socialism, carpetbagger.
Please, oh PLEASE, someone please ask Hillary a difficult question on live TV. Thank you.

Don’t let it go to your head, Nick
The fact that I agreed with you on one minor point Nick is not exactly “progress.” We are still miles apart politically and philosophically.
You wrote: “People call each other “bitch” and other names and they laugh about it.”
Yes… you are a bitch Nick, and I AM laughing about it!

Brian Williams throws a softball question. Who in the reporting guild will begin the tough questioning about WalMart and have public officials answer to serious and known problems about corporate behavior inside and outside the U.S.- How about Ralph Nader asking a few questions of these clowns on national television?

I tried to throw you a bone and you threw me an insult. I expect nothing less from you, child. Why don’t you try debating like an adult? I am not offended by your stupid language. I know that its’ easy to be brave when you are working as a site administrator for WMW and you can hide behind a computer.
They have names for people like this. How about: Yellow Coward?

Nick,
“None of the candidates wants to be in a position where they have to answer tough questions.”
The one question that I liked, was, ‘If I have to take a drug test to keep my job and earn my paycheck, why don’t welfare recipients have to pass a drug test to get their welfare checks?’, and I think it was Dodd, who answered, ‘we couldn’t do that, because that is the reason a lot of them are on welfare, because they are sick and need help getting off drugs’, what a lame answer, don’t you think? Wouldn’t it be a lot easier to get them off drugs, if the governmnet wasn’t giving them the money to buy them?

$18,000 a year? That’s obscene!
