It’s Getting a Little Outrageous…

Consumerist brings news that Wal-Mart is still selling t-shirts with a Nazi-era graphic more than a year after they were recalled. As the site rightly points out, if Wal-Mart can’t get one t-shirt off its shelves, what does that mean for the millions of recalled toys tainted with lead?

Walmart Nazi Tshirt Watch: Week 62 [Consumerist]

Just when you thought all of the Walmart tshirts bearing the exact replica of an infamous Nazi symbol were recalled, or sold to a discount store and burned, a Walmart in Palmdale, California has them on sale for $3.00 a pop. 62 weeks after Walmart pledged to remove the shirts from its shelves, and 50 weeks after getting a letter from Congress demanding the shirts removal, they’re still out there. If they can’t get rid of a simple tshirt, how good are they at recalling toys, defective merchandise, and dangerous food?

I know you are just repording what the consumerist reported, however I don’t beleive that Congress DEMANDED the shirts be removed.  (If they did Bush would have vetoed it.)

I beleive that a handfull of Conressmen wrote a letter to H Lee Scott.  A letter from Congressmen making a request is not the same thing as ‘CONGRESS DEMANDING’

THIS HOW WALMARTWATCH ORIGINAL WROTE ABOUT THE LETTER.  NOTICE IT SAYS ASKING NOT DEMANDING:
Now Members of Congress have written a letter, obtained by The Consumerist, asking Wal-Mart to remove the T-shirts once and for all.

...a Walmart in Palmdale, California has them on sale for $3.00...

How much profit do you suppose there is in a $3 t-shirt?

Bentonville wouldn’t know a smart business decision if it hit them in the face.

Ken V,

Typical Liberal clap-trap!!  Isn’t it strange that you yell ‘censorship, when Wal-Mart pulls magazines from their stores, but find no problem with them getting rid of things YOU don’t like?  First off, the T-shirts were not RECALLED, as the article repeats more than once!!  Second, have you not heard of ‘Freedom of Speech’?  Years ago, the beloved Liberal ACLU, backed the right of a Nazi group to march in a Jewish neightborhood, Wal-Mart is just selling a T-shirt with a picture on it!!  I would not have known it was a Nazi picture, had someone not told me and I bet most others wouldn’t have either!!  And, while I agree that it is not a good move to sell these T-shirts, I do agree with the statement, “I may not agree with what you say, but I will defend your right to say it”!!  That’s the true American Way!!

BTW:  I saw on the History Channel last night, that the end of mankind is going to happen on 12-21-2012, that’s less than 5 years away, so what does it all matter!!

RDS: “Years ago the beloved Liberal ACLU, backed the right of a Nazi group...” WHOA!! Didn’t that very same ACLU back up Republican Right Wing Blowhard , Liberal Hater, Mr. Oxyincontinent himself-Rush Limbaugh? When he was caught lying about how he was illegally obtaining the vast amounts of the prescription drugs? Seems to me his fat was in the fire re: doctor’s records. The ACLU spoke out to defend his right to privacy-Guess they weren’t so ofensive to ole Oxy,then! An item of clothing, publicly worn,is not the same as a magazine. Most people don’t wear a magazine as an item of clothing.

ddrb,

Nice try at a diversion, by sighting the Republican Right Wing Blowhard Liberal Hater!!  But, in the end you made my points, first, that Liberals only object, when the Conservatives are involved and second, the ACLU defends people’s rights, whether some people like it or not!!

“An item of clothing, publicly worn,is not the same as a magazine.”

Guess you haven’t seen what kind of T-shirts people are wearing in public nowadays!!

I am a ‘normal’ American, who believes in hard work, ‘Personal Responsibility’, the Constitution, Capitalism, Freedom, and the American Way, what’s wrong with that?

P.S. Yummy on the Oxycotin, helps get the job done on radio!!

Poor, blind RDS. This isn’t about what I “like” it’s about a “smart business decision”.

How much profit selling Nazi t-shirts @ $3 a pop vs. the adverse PR cost?

Why not read my posts before lashing out?

Ken,

The likelihood that Bentonville had anything to do with this is slim.

That is assuming the photos were really taken at the time we have been told, though that really isn’t as hard for me to believe as I’d like for it to be.

They either have inventory control or they don’t.

Ken V,

“Why not read my posts before lashing out?”

And, if you had READ my post, you would have seen that I agreed with you: “And, while I agree that it is not a good move to sell these T-shirts”!!

RDS in

So, Ken, you mean to suggest that Bentonville would intentionally direct stores sell an offensive shirt that it promised to remove from shelves at a clearance price of $3.00? That doesn’t seem very likely to me. Then again, that may be better than the alternative.

By the way, did the Consumerist ever prove that this photo is current? Just wondering . . .

While it is true that I no longer require a size XXXL of these fabulous T-shirts, I gave them out as XMas gifts and the only one who said he wouldn’t wear it openly was Clarence. ‘Only under my robe on special hearing dates...’ ‘and not on MLK’s birthday.’ Nothing like fair weather friends.
