Pay the Kids
Wal-Mart exploits thousands of teenage grocery baggers in Mexico, relying on their work but forcing them to work only for tips. Learn more by watching this video, and then visit our action page to send a letter to Wal-Mart officials and the Mexican Labor Department telling them to end the unethical practice.

Interesting definition of the word “force” - to walk into the store, fill out an application, understand the terms of the job, and sign the employment papers. Sorry ... I’ve never heard of that definition before . . .
This is actually a great example how minimum wage laws end up hurting the poor. “Force” higher wages on the employer, and most of the people will be out of a job. How would you guys like to break it to them???

I guess when you are hungry.....you’re not being forced to what ever agreement Walmart can screw you with. Right?
I hope that Lee Scott with his 10’s of millions in salary from his Walmart each year, would tip 10% when he exploits these teenagers.

That’s so sad to say that you guys can’t pay the volunteers in Mexico who are kids for crying out loud. You can pay your stupid managers who don’t do nothing but discrimnate against their own employees and talk samck and get on everyone’s nerves. I have a few freinds who work at Wal-Mart and they say it’s o.k. You guys have to do as stupid cheer that’s supposed to motivate them in taking people’s lives around the world. Things will never change and I thought the best would come. I still think it will but time is of the essence and yuor shareholders will loose interest soon. That your cheap medical prescription thing won’t last becuase that won’t make up for all the bad deeds as a company. Oh and you guys need more color in your upper management becuase that’s a little too racist for my taste. target respect their employees and has doen the right thing form day one. They learned from your mistakes. Sadddd very Sadddd Shawty!!! Can I get a Whoop Whoop. Vote for Hilary or Obama!

Interesting argument, Ricky. So what you’re saying is it’s better to work for nothing (slavery) then not to work at all?
That’s pushing the Protestant work ethic a little far, don’t you think?

Ken V: You think “Ricky” would have the same attitude if he were one of those “volunteers”? Just a guess, but I bet ole Rick considers himself a compassionate conservative a la RDS!

Ken V,
“So what you’re saying is it’s better to work for nothing (slavery) then not to work at all?”
Who is it that said these people were “working for nothing”, it says they work for ‘tips’? And, it is only slavery, when you are ‘forced’ to do something, that is not the case in this instance!!
One thing that has always amazed me, is the penchant of Americans, to think that the whole world operates on the same rules and regulations of the U.S. and anything that is different than what Americans do, must somehow be WRONG!! Also, they seem to think, that everybody around the world MUST want to live the same way we do or they are WRONG!! Different cultures have different ways, Wal-Mart has had to learn this and adapt to the culture present, even if you think what they are doing is WRONG!!

Yeah, RDS, just think how competitive the US would be if we only got rid of all those pesky child labor laws.

Ken V,
“Yeah, RDS, just think how competitive the US would be if we only got rid of all those pesky child labor laws.”
That’s what I was talking about!! We consider a child to be anyone under the age of 18, but, in some countries, a child is anyone under the age of 12!! When I was young, a child was anyone under the age of 21!! And, when it comes to drinking, you are still considered a child/adult until you reach 21!! But, we allow children 16 & 17 to drive a car and even younger, to carry and shoot a gun, hunting!! Just what IS an adult anyway? And, does AGE really determine whether a person is a child or an adult, or is it Maturity?

RDS
You’re right after all I’ve met some 9 year olds that seem mature enough to go out in the world and start working 60 or 70 heck, why not 100 hours a week! The thing is they are small and strong and don’t require as much food or rest, therefore they shouldn’t need as much pay, break, or time off as a fully grown person, right? They don’t understand their rights so they wouldn’t have any use for them, right? As for time off, hell they don’t need any, they would only waste it playing, or (god forbid) learning! When they are burned out and die at 30, who really care’s any way? There are plenty to replace them, just go to the local grade school and snatch another “mature” 9 year old to take their place. After all, poor people don’t feel things the way the rest of us do, do they?
Do you have any idea how VILE you really are?
BTW Bob don’t bother trying to twist this post because I was using SARCASM to make my point. jsyk
