There was a Southpark segment done a year ago or so poking jabs at Walmart.  That segment was called “Something Walmart this way comes”.  So True.....

I havn’t given Sams or Walmart a penny of my money in 9 years now.  I actually place Anti WM info on peoples doors when I see them using WM leaf bags.

There is no joke to this, but I love that SNL got in on this.

I think this SNL satire was rather tame.  Now, I’d love to see the South Park slam against Mall-Wart.  We need more heavy digs against the evil Walton gang.

To be honest, at first I thought that this was just an attempt on Greed Inc,s part to give a true depiction of what they realy are all about. But then I realized that they haven’t told the truth since Sam died. Thats when I saw the humor in it but the realy sad part is, its true and much, much worse. Thats when it stopped being funny to me. WM has become a blight on this country and on the world. They have given the U.S. anouther black eye and they need to be stopped!

Way to go SNL. Although the satire was funny don’t forget how true it is. People need to wake up and realize the truth.
The mega retail giant has gotten to big for their britches..And now they think they can do anything they want and nobody can stop them. Well, lets show them!

Bruce,

Didn’t you know it is the ex Wal-Mart employees, who were making $7.00 an hour and are now working at Mickey D’s for $6.00 an hour, that are the brilliant ones?  Just think, if they were to replace Lee Scott, with one of the people, like Dave Smith or Roger S., Wal-Mart might become the largest retailer!!  Oh, wait, they are already, aren’t they?  But, then again, maybe those guys could make Wal-Mart into the smallest retailer, after all, that’s what they want Wal-Mart to do now, isn’t it?  But, I’m not really sure, what it is they want Wal-Mart to do!!  They want Wal-Mart to pay better wages and give affordable insurance, but also want Wal-Mart to go out of business, what good are higher wages and affordable insurance, if you don’t have a place to work at anymore?  It’s so confusing, as to what they really want!!

Loved it and wish eveyone would get involved to tell the truth but even more, live by it. I havent set foot in a wm or sams in over a dozen years and live just fine without them. 2 of them within 15 minuets and another one going to be build 5 minuets from me. I wish I could do more to stop it. I hope we dont wait until we all are forced to work for them until we become active. Small business are fading fast and I feel wm is a part of that. I worry about our grandkids, because when they are the only game in town, believe me they will not have those low prices.

Wal-Mart needs to be put out of business.  I’m glad that San Diego did a number on them recently.  Any store that puts guns next to the toy department needs to be shut down.  They don’t care about anyone or anything.

Where does WM get their information that 92% of the people in this country shop there? I don’t and neither does anybody that I know. Could it be that I happen to know all of the 6% who do not shop there? I was insulted by the % claim by WM.  Shop at WM? NO THANKS!

Bruce,

Yeah, it sure is funny, how there can be days, where almost no one posts here and then all of a sudden, there are 30 posts in one day that are almost all, anti Wal-Mart.  It is also funny, how all of these people who “wouldn’t set a foot in Wal-Mart”, seem to care about what the employees there are getting.

And, why don’t these people respond to our posts, with anything but union talking points?  They just keep repeating the same things, with nothing to back them up.  I know that when I go into any Wal-Mart in the area, I don’t see, Dirty stores, Poor customer service, Empty shelves, Cluttered aisles, Long checkout lines, Etc. and I have been to other stores in other states and haven’t seen it there either, where are all these ‘terrible’ stores?  In fact, I was in the ‘Neighborhood Market’ yesterday and they had 7 checkouts open, plus 4 self checkouts, with maybe 50 shoppers in the store.

Dennis,

“Wal-Mart needs to be put out of business.”

Right, our country needs 1.3 million people to be put out of work, not to mention all of the people who would lose their jobs with the suppliers.  If you would use your head for something other than a hat-rack, maybe you would see how bad Wal-Mart going out of business would be.  Don’t you people ever think before you speak?

This is about as disingenune a statement that has ever been posted, period! You are suddenly worried about American jobs. Thats almost funny, I mean for almost a year now I have meen making that argument and you have vehamently defended the LOSS of american jobs to China. Now suddenly you jump on the bus and start to defend American jobs. You have no true convictions what so ever! Wheres the ....By the loss of these jobs people will go back to school and get more education, or they were low paying jobs so now they can go out and get better ones, orthese are dead end jobs and people are better off without them. That would be your argument if it were great American manufacturing jobs leaving this country and bound for yourwoundreful COMMUNIST CHINA!!!!!! I work for Wally World......true the stores are not dirty, not poorly stocked, customer service is usually good.....this is not the issue. I work there part time to supplement my income....for the most part I like my job.....BUT NOT PROVIDING AFFORDABLE INSURANCE IS UNACCEPTABE...also many of their new attendance policies and scheduling/avaiability policy changes are HURTING GOOD HARD WORKING ASSOCIATES....I see it first hand....Lee Scott is hurting this cmpanies image and destroying the moral of associates.....so when these people vent, just remember one thing while you are sitting in your ivory tower.....Sam Waltons policy of Respect for the Individual and the open door policy are NOT A PART OF TODAYS WAL MART NO MATTER WHAT THEY SAY....as the Beatles once sang Get back to wherw you once belonged.

Alright BooB, you cry about people losing jobs if Wal-mart went out of business.
It works like this, millions of customers would not vanish into thin air, I am sure that is a shock to your little mind.
No they would shop elsewhere, at places that paid better, places that respected their employees.
So many of the people out of work would find jobs elsewhere, at places that treated employers with dignity and respect.
So you see Boob Wal-Mart closing shop would be the best thing to happen to the US economy in years.
There is a very high cost for the low price!

Theres alot of us who dont want wal-mart to go out of business, we just want them to treat there associates better.  Bruce if you had ever worked for wal-mart then you would see them in a different light. I worked for wal-mart 7 years as a manager, I know what goes on behind closed doors, its not good.
Wal-mart is not about the customer or the associates any more. Its about the money, about the profit. They could care less about you as a person.

Granted Wal-Mart is not the greatest employer in the world and I sure would like to be the idiot at the top making all the decisions as far as doing away with our layway depts. Hello! There would be the decline in sales, and the FACT that Walmart stores will eventually phase out Fabrics and Crafts Depts. 19 & 44. However, at the costs of union dues, and with the idea that there are Labor Boards and Lawyers out there whom handle Worker’s Rights in every state. Who’s the better way to go, Wal-Mart where we already have minimal health care coverage, and alleged low wages, or to work for walmart and also have to pay for the never ending increasing cost of Union Dues? Hint: One call to the Labor Board is Free. So in the end, who really is the bad guy? Wal-mart or the Union members whom allow Wal-mart associates to be bashed on here yet want our money???

Bob - Sorry Bob, but Dave has made a very good point concerning your record on job loss! Whose “supplier” jobs would be lost??? China’s??? Oh, you mean the same jobs that were ours in the first place??? 1.3 million jobs would be lost??? That’s parcular. You failed to mention the well over 3 million “good paying” manufacturing jobs that have been lost in the past 5 years to overseas competition!!! Remember what you conservatives constantly preach? “Jobs at Wal-Mart, aren’t meant to support a person or their family!” If that’s the case as you claim, then I guess the employees won’t be missing out on much, now will they???

Wal-Mart & The Union in Active Associate - Apparantly, you no very little about unions, as your post dictates! For one, union dues, rarely go up. And when they finally do go up, it’s very minimal. Dues are a very small price to pay, considering what you get in return! And don’t even think about saying “they get job loss in return”, when corporations and their unions, have worked together for several decades, resulting in profits for “everyone”, not just a few top shareholders! If you look at the facts, union and non-union jobs alike, didn’t start having problems, until the “flawed” free trade agreements went into effect. Isn’t that parcular???

The NLRB, is a good organization to have, depending on which party is in office at the time. When the notorious “Not-so-labor-friendly” Republican Party is in office, it’s like having the “Wolf guard the hen house!!!” Keep in mind, the current president, personally appoints all of the top board members who govern it’s actions!!! You might as well be talking to a brick wall, when calling the NLRB concerning a labor issue while President Bush is in office!!!

It is interesting to read how many people post to this discussion claiming to be concerned about the welfare of the underprivileged employees working at Wal-Mart, yet in the same post cringe at the revolting thought of actually being seen shopping at a “dirty” Wal-Mart or wearing apparel from its racks.

That seems less like empathy and more like elitist classism.

Josh in Des Moines, Iowa

Josh
You are correct in your cmment that it is more like elite classism....also trying to wish Wally world out of business is also not productive....still Wally World needs to be held ACCOUNTABLE for their poor health care programs and new attendance policy and scheduling policies that truly punish hard working associates.....also their comment (too numerous to mention) such as going forward and trying to hire younger, healthier associates....there has to be some give and take....all Wally world upper management wants to do is take...this should be unacceptable.....Lee Scott needs to be replaced!
