Site Fight Of The Week: Greater Milwaukee

The Greater Milwaukee area has had the pleasure lately of being home to several raging site fights. Two in particular, Muskego, WI, and Waukesha, WI, have been in the news lately. Both are small towns to the west of Milwaukee, an area that already has 13 Wal-Marts in a 20 mile area. Wal-Mart, which already has 85 stores in a state with the population of only 5.5 million, is clearly pushing a saturation strategy in Wisconsin.

In Muskego, Wal-Mart wants to build a 16 acre, 152,000 square foot supercenter with grocery “east of S. Moorland Road and south of W. College Ave., Wal-Mart spokeswoman Lisa Nelson said Monday. It would be just across Moorland Road from a 485,000-square-foot distribution center being built for GE Healthcare.” Al Norman runs down the Muskego fight in a Battlemart post here.

In Waukesha, Wal-Mart wants to build a 184,100 square foot behemoth on “S. West Ave. and Highway 59 on 32 acres, now the site of the closed Cretex Concrete plant.” And in Waukesha, in addition to traffic, crime and economic concerns - it seems not that the building of the new supercenter will likely endanger a local (already endangered) species of snake. Needless to say, Wal-Mart is hoping the Department of Natural Resources looks past any wildlife concerns and rubber stamps the project.

But there are many hurdles left before any construction begins on the project and hope should remain high for our Wisconsin site fighters. There’s still time to convince your town officials to consider investing in local Wisconsin businesses, instead of bringing in more Wal-Marts to ship all profits back to Bentonville, Arkansas.

TAKE ACTION NOW!

If you live in the area, write here to local officials and tell them you don’t need any new Wal-Marts.

There is a joke just waiting to happen with a statement like that…

Bet RDS knows what I mean.

Yeah, Yeah bbrd!  We know!  That was too obvious

“species of snake”

I wonder how many different “species of snake” Wal-Mart employs?

I’m sure both you and RDS are ahead of the curve when it comes to relating to snakes, bbrd.

“There is a joke just waiting to happen...”

It’s already happened!  You and RDS are the joke, bbrd!

Walmart employees are now a “species of snake”?  I’m glad you have so much respect for the hard working employees Screwed.  It’s just another example of your arrogance and contemp for anyone associated with the name Walmart.

And to think Hillary Clinton once worked in WalMart’s legal office. Naturally…

Another “Snake” Heard From!

I always find it interesting when I pick on either bbrd or RDS, it’s “mary” who tries to defend them.

Arrogance? I wouldn’t know about that.  But you’re right-on about the contempt I hold for anyone associated with Wal-Mart.  You know… it’s that whole thing about either being a part of the solution or a part of the problem.

Besides, anyone who works for Wal-Mart, must be holding himself in contempt.

Waukesha is hardly a small town, at least for Wisconsin.  It is probably the largest suburb of Milwaukee, and already has a lot of shopping centers so a Walmart is not going to add that much traffic to the area.  This is just the unions trying to keep Walmart out since the unions have a lot of power in Milwaukee and don’t want people to have the choice of shopping at a non union shop.  Milwuakee has a ordinance that doesn’t allow super centers in the city limits.  So this store would be the closest supercenter that they could get for the Milwaukee residents that would probably like to be able to spend less for groceries than the price gouging union grocers charge.

It is laughable that screwed would put down anyone because of their station in life, when his sole accomplishment was to be the field director (short for “Go get the coffee, Tom.") for a bad movie.

John,

“It is laughable that screwed would put down anyone because of their station in life, when his sole accomplishment was to be the field director (short for “Go get the coffee, Tom.") for a bad movie.”

He was a Field Producer, not Director, don’t make it sound more important than it was!!  But, the “Go get coffee” part was probably right!!

Check this out, Screwedby lives on the WEST side of Milwaukee and has been fighting store openings in the area:

“Both are small towns to the west of Milwaukee, an area that already has 13 Wal-Marts in a 20 mile area”

Just how successful has his group been?

JOE,

“What movie , is it on youtube?”

The fact that you don’t know about it, shows how much of a FLOP the movie was!!  I don’t think it was ‘good enough’ to be on Youtube!!

And to think Hillary Clinton once worked in WalMart’s legal office.

Ah, Robert, not just worked. Hillary was the first female on Wal-Mart’s Board of Directors. (1986 - 1992)

Typical RDS Rubbish!

True to your form RDS, you are “so 3 years ago!” At least you and your friends “bbrd” and “John in OKC” make references to something that happened in this decade.  It’s so unlike you.

Now the Wal-Mart you all love to defend wouldn’t be much of a company if one movie could “bring the company down.”

The movie you keep referring to ad nauseum, is merely a footnote in the Battle against Wal-Mart. There have been other movies, many books, many blogs, and many editorials bringing light on the ways of “The Beast.”

All these things pale in comparison to the damage that Wal-Mart has done to itself over the years, and continues to do to itself due to incompetent management decisions and PR blunders.  When more and more politicians get involved and start “gunning for Wal-Mart,” and cut off “the hand that’s been feeding Bentonville,” it will get more interesting.

I’ve often compared the Wal-Mart empire to a collapsing star… a “Big Black Hole” if you prefer.  It will eventually collapse under it’s own weight and size, but not before it destroys and sucks in many good jobs and small businesses into the void!

Wal-Mart won’t be brought down by one book or one movie.  Get over it!

Screwedby,

“True to your form RDS, you are “so 3 years ago!” At least you and your friends “bbrd” and “John in OKC” make references to something that happened in this decade.  It’s so unlike you.”

So, you don’t think that “3 years ago”, did not happen in “this decade”, right?

“The movie you keep referring to ad nauseum, is merely a footnote in the Battle against Wal-Mart. There have been other movies, many books, many blogs, and many editorials bringing light on the ways of “The Beast.””

And yet, Wal-Mart keeps growing bigger every year!!  Guess that is what YOU call collapsing!!

One More TIme, Just for RDS

“So, you don’t think that “3 years ago”, did not happen in “this decade”, right?

WRONG! Libertarian Breath!  You’re still confused!

This time I will speak real slow so you comprehend it.

I said, “you… are… “so… 3… years… ago!” At… least… you… and… your… friends… make… references… to… something… that… happened… in… this… decade.”
