Wal-Mart Wants To Build Next To Two Civil War Battlefields

Today over at the Huffington Post, retired Army Lt. Colonel Robert Mackey alerted us to what looks to be a major Wal-Mart site fight. The post, “Wal-Mart’s War On America,” tells us how Wal-Mart is looking to build a supercenter near two federally-protected Civil War Battlefields - Wilderness and Chancellorsville, in Central Virginia.

Last month a coalition of groups including the Civil War Preservation Trust, National Trust for Historic Preservation and the National Parks Conservation Association, sent a letter to CEO Lee Scott urging Wal-Mart to keep the land supercenter-free. Don’t expect this fight to go away any time soon.

The Civil War Preservation Trust is urging readers to take action on the issue, and has several ways to do so. More soon on this issue.

Gee, I wonder what Sam Walton would say? How ironic that Alice Walton donated mllions to Swiftboat John Kerry a few years back and portray him as a traitor, but WalMart would descrate hallowed ground to turn a buck? Who’s patriotism should be questioned here? Just when you think that the obscenity of WalMart attempting to sway the Presidential election is a low blow to our country’s heritage, now THIS?

Just have ole “Lee” bend over in front of the pictured cannon and fire it. That should clear up his thought process!

It should be an activity he practices for anyway, so he is broke in, when he meets bubba!

A Civil War Battlefield… I Like That Metaphor!

I’ve often likened the fight against Wal-Mart to a “War.”

Maybe if more politicians, activists, and concerned citizens actually saw it this way, we’d see more results.

This is a “civil war” of a different kind.

Don’t worry........Walmart will sell cheap little ‘made in China’ civil war cannons along side their imported flags display.
Then they can pretend to be patriotic LOL.

Take Your Wal-Mart Loving Ass Out of Here, OCS!

You’re just another right wing-nut, Wal-Mart loving apologist, OCS.

You’re just hacked off because Hillary Clinton didn’t get the Democratic nomination.  If she had, maybe John McCain might have had one or two chances in a million of getting elected.

Say what you want about Barack Obama.  Nobody ever said we had a “perfect electoral system.” But anyone who cares about the future direction of this country, knows better than to waste their vote on an “Old Has-Been Fart” like McCain, who will do nothing more than perpetuate the Bush policies we’ve suffered through for the last 8 years!

Obama Stingy with Charities
Wednesday, March 26, 2008 12:28 PM
By: Newsmax Staff

Tax returns released by the Barack Obama presidential campaign show that Obama and his wife Michelle gave less than 1 percent of their total $1.2 million income to charity from 2000 through 2004.

The Obamas reported that they gave $2,350 to charity in 2000 — 1 percent of their $240,505 adjusted gross income — $1,470 (.5 percent) in 2001, $1,050 (.4 percent) in 2002, $3,400 (1.4 percent) in 2003, and $2,500 (1.2 percent) in 2004.

The total for the four years was $10,770, “a lowball figure compared to other politicians,” the New York Post reported in a story headlined “Those Stingy Obamas.”

The Obamas increased their charitable contributions to $77,315 in 2005, when their adjusted gross income was $1.65 million — including $1.2 million from Barack Obama’s book royalties.

And in 2006, the Obamas contributed $60,307 — 6.1 percent of their $983,826 AGI — including $22,500 to controversial pastor Jeremiah Wright’s Trinity United Church of Christ and $13,107 to the Congressional Black Caucus.

Looks like Obama cares a lot about charities and the people they help!!

“RDS: NONE of us are in charge of our own existence.”

I never said that life doesn’t pose problems, but it is how you handle those problems that determines whether you move ahead or stand still or fall behind!!  If people dwell on past problems instead of dealing with them as life’s lessons, they fall into a ‘victim’ mode and blame all future problems on those past problems!!  You seem to be one of those ‘victims’ who after years keeps harping about the Wal-Mart store next to you, instead of dealing with it!!

If you sit around crying about your life, instead of DOING something about it, it is almost a self fulfilled prophesy, that life will be a hard place to live in!!  Just like you anti people tend to blame Wal-Mart for ALL of the problems in the world, it takes your focus off of the REAL problem MAKERS, like the members of Congress, who constantly screw things up, making it hard on ALL of us!!

SUCCESS - Making more ‘Good’ choices, then ‘Bad’ ones and taking advantage of opportunities!!

Poverty - Making more ‘Bad’ choices, then ‘Good’ ones and letting opportunities pass you by, waiting for something to fall into your lap!!

When I say that I am in charge of my existence, I mean that I don’t need charities, or welfare, etc. to take care of me and my family, if I need MORE money, I do what it takes to find ways to increase my income, not sit crying that someone should be GIVING me a ‘Living Wage’!!  It’s called TAKING CHARGE!!

Ken V,

“always froth at the mouth at the prospect that someone might be getting some free government cheese.”

I have no problem with people getting TEMPORARY help from the government when they have problems or people with PERMANENT disabilities!!  The ones I have a problem with, are the CAREER needy, who are healthy enough to work, but choose not to, because that is easier!!  Then they tend to have many children and teach them how to follow in their ‘footsteps’, as well as hanging around ‘border-line’ needy people and convince them that it is easier to get freebies than going to work everyday!!  Also, in many cases, the ‘entitlement’ attitude fosters the ‘If you have it and I need it, I can just take it from you” mentality that leads to theft!!  Remember - Idle hands are the Devil’s tools!!

I also have a big problem with “Dead-Beat Dads” who bring children into the world and then refuse to support them and expect the taxpayers to assume the responsibility for the mother’s and the children’s welfare!!

But, then again, didn’t Screwdby claim ‘personal responsibility’ is a WHACKO concept and ‘social responsibility’ is the way to go?  Maybe those Dead-Beat Dads are doing something ‘good’, by helping society live up to their ‘social responsibilities’!!

RDS: Your post reminded me of a REALLY frightening fact that much of the upcoming election is said to depend upon “swing” states like West Virginia. Here’s a few words about the work ethic THERE:~~~~~~~~Monday April 7, 2008
by Justin D. Anderson
Daily Mail Capitol Reporter(West Virginia)
Since 1979, the state has never ranked higher than 44th in the nation when it comes to the income level of its average citizen.

For the last quarter-century, the state’s per capita income has been ranked next to last among states with the exception of five years when it ranked 48th.

Last year the average West Virginian had income of $29,537, a 4.7 percent increase over the previous year, according to the U.S. Department of Commerce.

That was $10,000 less than the national average.

Industrial and mining jobs are declining, Kent said. That means fewer good-paying jobs for people without higher education.

Tom Witt, an economics professor at WVU, pointed to the high percentage of West Virginians who simply don’t participate in the workforce.

“West Virginia has the lowest labor force participation rate in the country,” Witt said. “This has been a chronic, long-term statistic in our state. I see no reason for that to change.”

Witt said the high number of citizens who are able to work but don’t is a serious drag on the overall average income.

WVU research shows that in 2005, only about 55 percent of able-bodied people aged 16 and older participated in the workforce. Nationally, the average was 65.9 percent in 2005. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ BTW, W.Virginia has less than 15% minority population.Arkansas is just above West Virginia in yearly income and education levels. Two of the three poorest and least educated states in the country. Why should these states have such political clout? Interestingly enough, both states have a prominent Rockefeller family presence.
