Wal-Mart Watch Launches Wal-Mart Product Recall Site

This year, Wal-Mart pulled millions of recalled products off its shelves—from toys to food to children’s car seats and cribs.

So what is Lee Scott, Wal-Mart’s CEO, doing to inform his customers about these recalls? He put a tiny link at the very bottom of the Wal-Mart homepage. That’s it.

Surely the biggest company in the world can do better than that—especially during the holiday season, when Wal-Mart sells even more toys than Toys ‘R’ Us.

But since Mr. Scott won’t be open about Wal-Mart’s product recalls, we are doing it for him.

Wal-Mart Watch has launched a new site, Recall Wal-Mart, which is full of information about the recalled products sold at Wal-Mart. It also has a tool that lets you send a letter to Lee Scott about Wal-Mart’s role in its customers’ health.

Check out the site, and tell Mr. Scott that when Wal-Mart has a recall, it should be the first thing on their website, not the last:

http://www.RecallWalMart.com

Wal-Mart Watch believes there is a reason Wal-Mart stocks so many recalled products and then buries the news at the bottom of its website. Mr. Scott is putting the company’s interests ahead of its customers’ safety.

Many of these recalls are the result of the intense cost-cutting pressure Wal-Mart puts on its overseas suppliers—thousands of which are located in China, where safety standards are much weaker.

Because of Wal-Mart’s tremendous size and influence, manufacturers are forced to meet its demands. When Wal-Mart requires lower prices, that means sacrificing quality and using cheaper materials, like lead paint.

To make matters worse, once the dangers of these products came to light, Lee Scott failed to properly inform Wal-Mart’s customers about the recalls. That’s just irresponsible.

Visit Recall Wal-Mart and tell CEO Lee Scott to put customers’ safety first:

http://www.RecallWalMart.com

This isn’t the first time Lee Scott has put the corporation first instead of people.

For years, Wal-Mart has been skimping on employee wages and benefits, so that less than half of its workforce gets its health coverage from the company.

Wal-Mart also hurts local communities and neighbors by forcing small businesses to shut down and spoiling the local environment.

And Wal-Mart has continually tried to bilk communities on the local tax bill, whether it is petitioning to lower its property value or setting up dubious foreign arrangements to take advantage of tax loopholes—depriving communities of much-needed revenue.

Wal-Mart Founder Sam Walton valued the communities that supported his stores, and he valued honesty with his customers. Wal-Mart has long since abandoned his original vision.

Again and again, Lee Scott has shown that Wal-Mart’s interests are more important than the people it serves or the communities it calls home. Visit Recall Wal-Mart and tell the retail giant you’ve had enough:

I took the bait and visited the new website, and found THIS keeper under the description of the recalled toys:

What’s wrong with that picture?  That is, unless the new website is speaking of light-emitting diodes…

The Walmart Image and Manipulation Police (WIMP) have arrived. vantress is an imbecile so ‘lets blame WalMartWatch’ on the quality of ‘discussion’ brought to you by the genius of ‘someone’ who is a known quantity of previous attempted WalMart glorification horseshit.

WalMart worship slobs/lackeys/trolls/shills/frauds and internet fakes from the Bentonville propaganda guild cannot possibly have anything to do with this commentary ‘exchange’ phenomenon, right ‘someone’?

Thanks for the warm welcome SDV. It’s good to see you again, too. Hope you are preparing to have a good Christmas.

You are correct in your characterization of a certain poster, but if he is on Wal-Mart’s payroll as you suggest, then they have bigger problems than anybody thinks.

Honestly, I was referring more to the amount of profanity they are allowing to slide these days than the total lack of substance in the discussion. When I started posting here two years ago, it seems the discussions were cleaner (as well as more on-point). Ultimately, if WMW wants to sanction a defense of their goals by the likes of you, Ryan, and the rest of the crew, it has nothing to do with me. I’d just be happy to get certain others who purport to be on “my side” to stop spewing their excrement on this site. Sometimes I think they are planted by WMW as part of some childish game.

Someone in USA

On the other hand there is amazing consistancy with the pro WalMart internet frauds and fakes that visit upon this site with their Bentonville/Edelman alter blogger worship and shill keyboard drivelings.

Wal-Mart / Edelman, Part Two: Will the Real Bloggers Please Stand Up?

O’Dwyer’s has more revelations about the multifaceted fakery engaged in by Wal-Mart and its PR firm, Edelman. Edelman staffers have been posing as “grassroots” bloggers on two Wal-Mart websites, for the Working Families for Wal-Mart front group and paidcritics....
The paid bloggers are Edelman’s Miranda Gill, Brian McNeill and Kate Marshall.
http://www.prwatch.org/node/5317

“In terms of PR strategies, Rubel last year told BusinessWeek that the first job for companies is to monitor the blogs to see what people are saying about them. The next step is to think of damage-control strategies. And when blogs attack, he says companies have to learn to track what blogs are talking about, pinpoint influential bloggers, and figure out how to...”
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/15319926/

WalMart has contracted with and reportedly pays Edelman $10 million annually to post here and elsewhere as internet fakes, frauds, shill, trolls and ass kissing lackeys to spew their propaganda and pollute the culture of America with WalMart worship and the deceptions of PR “my side” excrement.

Profanity is understandably long overdue in being directed against WalMart. Left handed justifications for their own internet imbecile drones like vantress who might be desperately described therefore as a ‘plant’ by the embarrassed is hardly the stuff of being a WalMart psychopath team player.

WalMart/Edelman- We hire internet frauds and fakes.

The level of disscussion here is directly proportional to the caliber of pro Wal-Mart posters. I may be naive but, like you, I can’t imagine any of these posters being supported by the Edelman war room. Unless, of course, the goal is no longer to win the argument but instead just to drive people away from reading this blog.

As for the profanity and lack of censorship, WALMARTWATCH may be a lot of things but an ivory tower isn’t one of them.

Why don’t you come back and help elevate the level of discussion, Someone, instead of practicing cheap shots?

WALMARTWATCH may be a lot of things...

Isn’t this the truth! I hope nobody is equating or defining the battle against Wal-Mart, in terms of the rising and falling of the Wal-Mart Watch star.

A weakening economy is Wal-Mart’s strongest “asset”.  Given the choice between a robust economy with plenty of good paying jobs, strong home sales, and what we have now, my bet is that Wal-Mart is hoping things don’t improve too much.  Let’s hope 2008 brings us some REAL leadership in Washington to get this country on the right track!

Instead of fighting the immigration battles along our border to the south and talking about building more fences, let’s build a solid wall of factories along the border, hire all the Mexicans that want to work there, and make them “honorary taxpaying citizens.” Who says we can’t compete with China?  Let’s start to make things in America again.  That’s my wish for the new year.

Peace.  Joy to the World!

The truth has been presented by matthew. As a young worker, he was ignored and forgotten by his co-workers. His crys to be heard were ignored and he drew farther into himself. He would sit by himself, often for hours. No calls on the phone, no knocks on the door. Him mother never called out “Hey Matthew, your friends are at the door”. No, there was nothing. Nothing but loneliness, and silence. His tears turned to anger, then rage. How will I get back at the world? What can I do to make the majority who are decent pay? I know! I’ll defend the Walmart Company. Surely that will get me attention. Yes, that’s what I will do.
From that moment on young matthew took up the fight for Walmart and in doing so brought much attention to his once forgotten name. He lived on with the light of his monitor illuminating his face as it smiled with revenge.

Gee, that is exactly what angry Wal-Mart workers do!!

“He should be kissing our asses since in a way we are responsible for his paycheck.”

Where do you think Wal-Mart’s employees paychecks come from?  Do you think that the checks fall from the sky?  Shouldn’t Wal-Mart employees be kissing Wal-Mart’s asses, as they wouldn’t have a job, without them?  And, if Wal-Mart’s empolyees don’t like their jobs, why don’t they just go get a job at a Union Grocer?

Why is it, that it is okay for Wal-Mart workers to complain and try to drive away shoppers, but NOT okay for union members to get mad and complain about the union, when it screws them over?  I know I got upset, when I filed a grievance over a contract violation and the union rep. came out of my bosses office, stuffing his hand in his pocket and telling me that sometimes I had to learn to compromise!!

I wasn’t talking about that, I was talking about why you think it is alright for one group of workers to complain and union workers shouldn’t complain!!  Yeah, the union may seem ‘good’, that is until they screw you over!!  I was a Teamster and many times we were told to forget that our employer violated our contract and in the end, I was screwed out of my pension money, that was put in for me!!  doesn’t that give me the right to complain about unions?

As for Matt’s job existing because of the non-Wal-Mart customer, many people shop at both places!!  I myself, don’t shop exclusively at Wal-Mart, in fact, in the area of groceries, I buy very little at Wal-Mart!!  Actually, I spend only about 1/4 of my shopping budget at Wal-mart, yet I am called a “Wal-Mart Lover” here!!  I just happen to prefer to stretch my money as far as I can, but I guess that is wrong to these idiots!!

I get called a “Wal-mart lover” just because I think the company has a right to do business, like any other.

Matthew said “ the same union that supports lawbreakers and stealing of hard working americans jobs by illegal aliens “

No illegal alien has ever stolen a job. However, many have earned and kept jobs by being the best at them. It’s insane that working for a living is “lawbreaking”. I support tightening the borders to keep bad guys out. But to stop good workers? No. I don’t blame them for coming across and getting their backs wet. The immigration system is entirely broken. Visa applicatiosn should take a few days, not several years. The INS is not even bothering to do its job to process them.

If they want to work, and can, let them in. Make them legal.

“Why call someone who actually wants to get off their duff and work for a living a “Scab”?”

What is a “Scab” anyway?  In the world of business, a ‘Strike’ is a CUT and a “Scab”, keeps the business from ‘bleeding’ to death!!  To a union, a ‘Strike’, also CUTS the workers, but the difference is, the union could care less to stop the ‘bleeding’ of it’s members, until they get what they want!!  Who cares if a member has to live off ‘strike pay’ for 6 months, and go deeply into debt, not the union, all they care about is Dues Money!!

Example:  If Wal-Mart workers were unionized, how long would they have to be on ‘strike’ before Wal-Mart would give in and give them a $5.00 an hour raise to catch up with Costco (On average pay)?  And, how long could the workers survive, while on ‘strike pay’?

RDS in
Monday, December 31 at 01:01 PM

Dues? That is part of it. Workers at union shops are forced to pay money to political causes too, so there is a lot of political corruption involved. There are two solutions:

1) national “right-to-work” laws, so no worker has their political rights taken away by forced union membeship.

or

2) if closed-shop is allowed, very strict regulation and monitoring of how union member funds are collected and used.

I would feel sorry for you if there was a job you wanted, and you were good at it, and they did not allow you to get a legal Mexican SS/whatever card.

Yes, they are, and so are jaywalkers. I would not deport jaywalkers, nor would I deport people whose only crime is working for a living.

In the last two Presidential elections, more working people chose the Republican than Democrat candidate. As for supporting dem candidates, as long as unions are forcing people to join and pay dues, they have no right to violate the political rights of 40-50% of the members and support political candidates.

Working people in this country don’t always vote in favor of their own bottom line.  One of my husband’s co-workers once told him he would gladly take a 50% paycut if it mean’t someone like George W. Bush could stay in the White House forever!

This guy is a bit of a religious nut and would glady have less money to feed his own family if it meant ultimately we could outlaw abortions and being gay.

And I have great story about Jimmy Hoffa Jr.  My sister’s husband is a big wig with a health insurance company.  He gets paid a huge bloated salary to wine & dine clients.  Gets to go to company paid insurance conferences in Hawaii annually.  So think of my REPUBLICAN brother in-law sipping on Mai Tais on your dime the next time your health insurance premium goes up.

So here’s my story.  Brother-in-law has a meeting with his boss before he leaves for a trip to meet with Jimmy Hoffa Jr. to land the Teamster account.  His boss says you may be, look and act like a Republican but when trying to land this account you will be a Democrat!  Must have worked as he just got a promotion and is now a Jr. CEO.

Corgishepmom,

Recently, I heard someone explain the difference between a Democrat and a Republican and I found it to be quite accurate, here it is:

The Declaration of Independence, states “Life, Liberty and the Persuit of Happiness”, to a:

Republican, the “persuit of happiness”, Means, the right of a person, to “persue” happiness, but, they have to earn it!!

Democrat, it Means the right “TO” have happiness, even if it has to be provided by the government, whether you deserve it or not!!

Alright RDS, if you want to swap jokes then I think this one is a bit more accurate:)

POLITICS EXPLAINED

A little boy goes to his dad and asks, “What is politics?”

Dad says, “Well son, let me try to explain it this way: I’m the breadwinner of the family, so let’s call me Capitalism. Your Mom, she’s the administrator of the money, so we’ll call her the Government. We’re here to take care of your needs, so we’ll call you the People. The nanny, we’ll consider her the Working Class. And your baby brother, we’ll call him the Future. Now, think about that and see if that makes sense.”

So the little boy goes off to bed thinking about what Dad has said. Later that night, he hears his baby brother crying, so he gets up to check on him. He finds that the baby has severely soiled his diaper. So the little boy goes to his parents’ room and finds his mother sound asleep. Not wanting to wake her, he goes to the nanny’s room. Finding the door locked, he peeks in the keyhole and sees his father in bed with the nanny. He gives up and goes back to bed.

The next morning, the little boy says to his father, “Dad, I think I understand the concept of politics now.”

The father says, “Good son, tell me in your own words what you think politics is all about.”

The little boy replies, “Well, while Capitalism is screwing the Working Class, the Government is sound asleep, the People are being ignored and the Future is in deep shit.”

“Life, Liberty and the Persuit....”

Someone should have proofread The Declaration of Independence.

One of my husband’s co-workers once told him he would gladly take a 50% paycut if it mean’t someone like George W. Bush could stay in the White House forever!

economic illegals do steal jobs and identities all the time, but if i went to mexico illegally and stole someones identity to work and used phony documentation like illegals do all the time over here and i ended up in a mexican prison would you feel sorry for me for breaking mexicos laws and would you call the mexican govt racist?of course not.if i went to mexico illegally the police and govt down there should make my life a living hell and so should the united states and the police over here to all the illegal aliens.sorry not calling them immigrants either, because they are thiefs and are breaking our laws.it irritates the hell out of me when they are called illegal immigrants.they are criminals.stealing someones id and using phony documentation to work is a hell of a lot more serious offense than jaywalking economic.

Matthew -

How does one steal a job? Do you go to an employer, threaten them at gunpoint and say “hire me” ? No, of course not. No jobs are ever stolen. Illegals get jobs just like anyone else: by being hired because they are good at something, or might be good at something if they proved themselves.

In fact, I challenge you to come up with an example of one single job that was stolen.

Yes, phony documentation, identity “theft” (which is really a form of fraud, not theft). It does happen, and is a big problem. Too bad the broken imimgration systen encourages people to do this in order just to work.

I don’t know what Mexican prisons have to do with it, but that country has its own problems.

you said - “,because they are thiefs and are breaking our laws”

Some are thieves, yes. I have no problem at all with deporting those who commit real crimes. But not for minor things like jaywalking and WORKING.

you said: “irritates the hell out of me when they are called illegal immigrants”

I use that term, or illegal aliens. Neither term should irritate you. The word “immigrant” merely has to do with someone moving here from elsewhere. The word “thief” used by you is misleading, however. The vast majority of illegal immigrants are not involved with “identity theft”: they just work without the documentation; without anyone’s documents.

In capitalism, man oppresses his fellow man. In socialism, it is the other way around.

Corgishepmom,

Your little story was cute, but consider this:  What would happen if the father got fired, (in this blog’s case, Wal-Mart went out of business)?  The nanny would lose her job, the kid would go into poverty along with his mother and baby brother!!  Everybody in your senerio is DEPENDANT on the father (Capitalism), for their welfare!!  Also, the nanny (working class)isn’t being forced to sleep with the father and is probably getting some pleasure out of it, therefore she really isn’t getting ‘screwed’, but rather being made ‘Love’ to, getting a ‘bonus’, so to say!!  And, what about the mother (government), why was she ‘sleeping’, while the baby continued to cry?  Being the administrator, isn’t it her job to make sure things run smoothly?  Seems that she wasn’t taking care of anyone’s needs, other than her own!!

As long as Capitalism thrives, everyone “WINS”, if not, everyone “LOSES”!!

BTW: I was giving defintions, not telling a joke!!

RDS in
Wednesday, January 02 at 01:23 PM

RDS, we all know those aren’t definitions one would find in Webster’s Dicitionary.  Get real!  Your definition was a joke!  And you trying to analyze my joke was quite laughable.  So here is another joke just for you!

You migh be a Republican if…

You think “proletariat” is a type of cheese.
You’ve named your kids “Deduction one” and “Deduction two”
You’ve tried to argue that poverty could be abolished if people were just allowed to keep more of their minimum wage.
You’ve ever referred to someone as “my (insert racial or ethnic minority here) friend”
You’ve ever tried to prove Jesus was a capitalist and opposed to welfare.
You’re a pro-lifer, but support the death penalty.
You think Huey Newton is a cookie.
The only union you support is the Baseball Players, because heck, they’re richer than you.
You think you might remember laughing once as a kid.
You once broke loose at a party and removed your neck tie.
You call mall rent-a-cops “jack-booted thugs.”
You’ve ever referred to the moral fiber of something.
You’ve ever uttered the phrase, “Why don’t we just bomb the sons of bitches.”
You’ve ever said, “I can’t wait to get into business school.”
You’ve ever called a secretary or waitress “Tootsie.”
You answer to “The Man.”
You don’t think “The Simpsons” is all that funny, but you watch it because that Flanders fellow makes a lot of sense.
You fax the FBI a list of “Commies in my Neighborhood.”
You don’t let your kids watch Sesame Street because you accuse Bert and Ernie of “sexual deviance.”
You scream “Dit-dit-ditto” while making love.
You’ve argued that art has a “moral foundation set in Western values.”
When people say “Marx,” you think “Groucho.”
You’ve ever yelled, “Hey hippie, get a haircut.”
You think Birkenstock was that radical rock concert in 1969.
You argue that you need 300 handguns, in case a bear ever attacks your home.
Vietnam makes a lot of sense to you.
You point to Hootie and the Blowfish as evidence of the end of racism in America.
You’ve ever said civil liberties, schmivil schmiberties.
You’ve ever said “Clean air? Looks clean to me.”
You’ve ever called education a luxury.
You look down through a glass ceiling and chuckle.
You wonder if donations to the Pentagon are tax-deductable.
You came of age in the ‘60s and don’t remember Bob Dylan.
You own a vehicle with an “Ollie North: American Hero” sticker.
You’re afraid of the liberal media.”
You ever based an argument on the phrase, “Well, tradition dictates....”
You ever told a child that Oscar the Grouch “lives in a trash can because he is lazy and doesn’t want to contribute to society.”
You’ve ever urged someone to pull themselves up by their bootstraps, when they don’t even have shoes.
You confuse Lenin with Lennon.

See RDS your “definitions” are no different than the stereotypes in these jokes.  Here is another one now at the expense of my own political party.

You Might Be A Democrate If…
* You feel Fidelity means not cheating on your mistress.

* You think that pornography corrupts women, but find nothing wrong with a 50 year old president seducing a 21 year old intern.

* You cry every May 4th over the four people killed at Kent State, but have never been to the Vietnam Memorial.

* Along the same lines, “Four Dead in OHIO” by Neil Young gives you goosebumps, but “19” by Paul Hardcastle means nothing to you.

* You say shows like “Leave It to Beaver” are out of touch with America today, while you flip to your soap opera.

* You know of the stockpile of biological weapons in Iraq, but think that the US is wrong for not signing the land mines treaty.

* You want to know why we don’t offer schooling in prisons (hey, isn’t that what public schools are for).

* You think those stupid ribbons actually accomplish something.

* You tout the NAACP, but criticize anyone referring to a black man as a “colored person.”

* You think a mother has a right to kill an innocent 5 month fetus because her pregnancy would interfere with her career, but feel we shouldn’t put to death the man who raped and murdered 14 women.

* You feel that banning smoking in public indoor places limits your constitutional rights.

* You feel that being convicted of treason is an infringement on your first amendment rights.

* You honestly feel that alcoholics deserve social security disability benefits.

* You outwardly said “I would have voted for Elizabeth Dole” knowing darn well you wouldn’t have because she is a Republican.

* You think it is ok for a President to commit perjury on his sex life, but criticize Dan Quayle for spelling potato/potatoe wrong.

* You stood on a soapbox demanding that Anita Hill be heard, but want Paula Jones’ accusations to be swept under the rug.

* You think the guy who drops out of High School and builds your jeep deserves more money than the doctor who went to college for 10 years and saves your kids life.

* You sang along to “Give Peace a Chance” during the Gulf War.

* You’ve filed for unemployment within two weeks of getting out of high school.

* You went to Woodstock II and felt that it was a significant historical event, changing the way our country thinks.

* You own something that says, “Dukakis for President,” and still display it.

* You’ve tried to argue in favor of anything based on, “Well, they’re gonna do it anyway so...”

* You’ve ever said, “We really should call the ACLU about this.”

* You believe that a few hundred loggers can find another career, but the defenseless spotted owl must live in its preferred tree.

* You ever based an argument on the phrase, “But they can afford a tax hike because...”

* You’ve ever argued that with just one more year of welfare that person will turn it around and get off drugs.

* You think Lennon was a brilliant social commentator.

* You keep count of how many people you know in each racial or ethnic category.

* You believe our government must do it because everyone in Europe does.

* After looking at your pay stub you can still say, “America is undertaxed.”

And Matthew stop using your example “if I went to Mexico to work”.  You know damn well you would never go there to work for mere pesos when you currently have job stability in this country.  Every time a person makes the decision to shop at an independent grocery chain instead of Walmart they are helping Matthew’s bottom line.

Just keep your fingers crossed that these people don’t continue to stray from the stores your warehouse supplies as more and more Walmarts pop up.  You can’t or won’t admit it but the non-Walmart consumer is the reason your job exists.

And NO, I’m not just talking about the the consumer that never goes into a Walmart.  Because even if a consumer shops at both places they are still supporting your company on those days they do decide to shop with one of your stores.  You are more ignorant than you seem if you don’t realize this!

Corgi: Are you actually one of those who is NOT a 100% partisan rocked-ribbed idealogue? Sure seems like it! Such a rare breed.

Here is a possible litmus test for Republican vs Democrat:

Think of the “Stella” hot coffee lawsuit. The Republicans tend to side wit McDonalds. The Democrats tend ti side with the lady who spilled coffee on herself and sude McDonalds.

Wasn’t the Terry Schaivo case a litmus test for Republican vs Democrat?

Speaking of brain dead people I do see my buddy Matt in full babble mode again.  Why so angry at the brown people?  Did some senorita rip you off during one of your vacations in San Diego?

Capitalism is best when it behaves itself.

Democrat: OK. We must monitor you though and your business practices in the public interest and curb your frauds, scams, thefts, deceits, and abuses of the public treasury. Remember government for the people, by the people… not for the corporation, by the corporation.

Republican/Libertarian insanity brigade: Our right to corporate liberty and the ‘love of money’ means morality and the rest of you can drop dead.
