Writers from Around the Web Take On Wal-Mart on New Blog

Two names familiar to Wal-Mart Watchers have joined forces with writers and activists from around the net to create a new blog, The Writing on the Wal. Founded by Daily Kos diarist Jonathan Rees and Jeff Hess from No Cleveland Wal-Mart, The Writing on the Wal takes Wal-Mart to task on everything from outsourcing to low wages. Contributers also include Jim Gilliam, producer of the upcoming documentary Wal-Mart: the High Cost of Low Price and Matt Lipsky of the Neighborhood Retail Alliance. Wal-Mart Watch staff members will also periodically post our thoughts on the Wal as well.

Thanks to the tireless efforts of Jonathan and Jeff, the blog is already off to a great start. We encourage you to take a look and check back often. As we approach Higher Expectations Week, the conversation should really heat up.

When you google Daily Kos, this is what comes up first: “Daily Kos: State of the Nation
Daily weblog with political analysis on US current events from a liberal perspective”

Pretty well says it all.  Another pro-union blog.

““Daily Kos: State of the Nation

Translation? “....political analysis on US current events filtered through narrow partisan bias”.

I’ve read Kos many times. His blog became rather famous because he loved to say things that were not true in regards to the Iraqi situation. It has made me wonder who is paying him: Saddam Hussein or Howard Dean?

It’s so funny how these liberals feel everyone wants to hear what they are saying, but when it comes to a free and open market, it turns out they are just ignored. If sooooo many people believed in what they said, wouldn’t AIR AMERICA be finacially sound and not going bankrupt. Its funny how most conservative shows(tv and radio) can do well enough to support themselves in a open market, but the liberal ones struggle unless they are backed up by the unions and Soros. Funny, isn’t it.....

Who says AA is going bankrupt, steve?  Read it and weep:

http://www.airamericaradio.com/node/1074

Unions have become almost a joke when it comes to wielding power anymore, and for every George Soros there’s a Rupert Murdock, Rev. Myung Sun Moon, Pete Coors, or Richard Mellon Scaife that feeds the right-wing hate media machine more than Soros has the left.  And besides Faux News, where would right-wing hate media be without the power of corporate monopolies like Clear Channel and Sinclair?  They’ve practically cornered the market on demagoguery and you’ve obviously bought it.  Funny, isn’t it indeed.

It is a very self promoting site.  Whether they are or are not in financial trouble cannot be determined one way or the other.  However, there are a couple of things worth mentioning.  The site does have a heavy emphasis on trying to sell various items.  There is nothing wrong with that, but it makes you wonder.

The other is something that has been bothering me for several months.  As part of a premium TV channel package, Sundance channel is offered along with Movie Channel and Showtime.  About half the time Sundance is running purely liberal programs such as Al Franken.  I have no problem with those programs being on TV.  However, I resent having to pay for Sundance, just because I want the other channels in the package.

David in Zack AR
Saturday, October 22 at 06:20 PM

For every Sundance, how many Sinclairs, Clear Channels, and Fox networks are there that do the opposite and load up the airwaves with purely right-wing propaganda.  You can point out that you don’t have to “subscribe” to these networks (just as you don’t have to buy a premium cable package), but these conglomerates dominate the airwaves and even have successfully lobbied the GOP-controlled FCC to give them as much ownership of the airwaves as they can buy.  It’s an insidious and incestuous cycle, and I resent the FCC giving away the people’s bandwidth to these slime peddlers.

Also, David, Daily Kos never has claimed to be “Fair and Balanced” (ha ha), though it’s a broad brush-stroke to claim that liberal = pro-union.  Not all conservatives are fundamentalist-wackos (though, it may seem like it anymore).  What’s your problem with workers who want to unionize, anyway?  Do you understand the history of unions?  What exactly brings you to this site?

As I said, I don’t care whether they are available.  I just object to paying for them.  In other words, my money is contributing to a cause which I don’t like.

It would appear that AA is desperate for money, even though they are denying it.

I also get a kick out of their advertisements.  They have 70 stations.  That is 1.4 stations per state.  Wow.  Talk about mess coverage.  Or maybe that is better described as half vast coverage.

David, you didn’t respond to any of my questions or other points I have made that challenge the validity of your posts.  And if AA is so insignificant, why are you bothering to disparage them so much?  By contrast, your silence on the right-wing hate media conglomerates shows you must have a political agenda.  So much for your credibility.

I’m sorry Fatchecker.  I guess I missed the points you were alluding to.  You have made a lot of allegations, but no points worth mentioning.

The right wing media is self supporting.  That should tell you something.  Fox is the most listened to news station in the US.  CNN is a distant second best.  The other stations are not even close enough to consider.

I know you hate the term “fair and balanced”, but you should really listen to Fox once in a while.  Even though they do lean to the right, they give plenty of opportunity to the left to respond.  Usually they refuse.  In fact, if you would want to challenge one of them, it might be arranged.  We could all use a good laugh.

David: The factless one was referring specifically to the right-wing HATE media.  The examples you are thinking of are likely not not hate media. Probably “Savage Nation” would count as hateful, but Fox News would not.

You make a good point concerning responsiveness. When did Dan Rather ever read mail from viewers who hated him over the air? How many weeks did it take for CBS News to fire him after he was caught making up a fake news story and airing it?

David,
it’s not even worth trying to argue with factchecker. He is your typical liberal hatemonger who makes up his own “facts” to support his left wing agenda. All the liberals ever do is say how unfair FOX, even when it is the most watched Cable news out there. The numbers don’t lie, unlike FC’s cohorts. David and NC, FC says that we are the same person, but in reality he’s just use to discusing arguments with people that can do their own research and not be confused by someone yelling out his so called “facts”. The liberals are always on the same mindset that if you yell louder and repeat yourself over and over again, people will believe you. Proof of the pudding is what they are trying to do with Wal-mart, when in reality all they want is the dues collected from the wal-mart associates in order to support their political party. Let’s hope the Democratic party is following in the footsteps of the unions with their constant decline of numbers in their ranks.

20. Texas: Mayors move citizens out of danger.
Louisiana: Mayor moves himself and family to Dallas.
21. Texas: Mayors continue public service announcements and updates on television with Governor’s backing and support.
Louisiana: Mayor cusses, governor cries, senator threatens president with violence on television, none of them have a clue what went wrong or who’s responsible.
22. Louisiana: Democratic Senator says FEMA was slow in responding to 911 calls from Louisiana citizens.
Texas: Republican Senator says “when you call 911, the phone doesn’t ring in Washington, it rings here at the local responders”.
What if state and local elected officials were forced to depend on themselves and their own resources instead of calling for help from the federal government? Texas cities would be back up and running in a few days.
Louisiana cities would still be under water next month. Republicans call for action, Democrats call for help.
What party will you be voting for in the next election?

OK, David, I’ll indulge you this once.  You asserted that because someone once affiliated with the liberal Daily Kos is a founder of this new blog, then the blog must be pro union.  You should prove that “liberal” necessarily means “pro union.” Does “conservative” necessarily mean “pro war” or “pro life”?  Besides, what is wrong with pro union?  You act like it’s a foregone conclusion that everyone agrees unions are bad.  If you think they are, don’t be afraid to say so, David, but explain why.  Do you hate Americans who want to band together to get fair working conditions or something?

Next, doesn’t “fair and balanced” Fox claim to employ some liberals?  If it didn’t, how could it be fair and balanced?  What if one them started this blog?  Would it then be an anti-union blog because of Fox?  Or what if Judy Miller started this blog?  Since every wingnut knows the NY Times is liberal (just ask Coulter), would your logic mean that Judy Miller would be starting a liberal (let alone pro union) blog?  (Remember, she’s been one of the strongest and, thanks to the “liberal” NY Times, loudest voices for PrezNit Bush.)

Then you deride a small media company and make fun of it because it’s not a huge, rich, & powerful conglomerate and you defend the right wing media because they are “self supporting.” (Wow, that’s honorable!) And Air America is not?  What do you know about them, David?  And Fox is good, apparently, because it is popular?!  Do you also deride and ridicule small businesses trying to compete with Wal Mart?  What do you say about them--that they are un-American, I guess?  If the “self supporting” remark referred to George Soros’s relationship to AA, how would you know whether Soros has supported AA?  And what would be wrong if he has?  The right-wing’s crown jewel newspaper, the Washington Times, is being supported by its owner, lunatic Rev. Myung Sun Moon, who has lost more than $1 billion since 1982 doing just that:

http://www.hoovers.com/news-world-communications/--ID__54437--/free-co-factsheet.xhtml

You want to smear Soros?  Here’s a handy chart comparing Soros to the radical right’s benefactor Rev. Moon:

http://iapprovethismessiah.com/2003/11/handy-comparison-chart-from.html

Again, just what is your beef around here, David, and your reason for posting here, again, was what?

And Steve and CV, aren’t you Bush apologists starting to feel really cheap?  Your shrill and desparate tone is increasing in direct proportion to the country’s disapproval with Bush and the entire GOP, and with the number of scandals mounting around your party.  Get a brain, dudes, and start using it for yourself.

That’s some really cute fiction, CV.  Maybe you’ll get a kick out of this one that’s been circulating arount “the internets”!:

Dear Red States:

We’ve decided we’re leaving. We intend to form our own country, and we’re taking the other Blue States with us.  In case you aren’t aware, that includes Hawaii, Oregon, Washington, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Illinois and all the Northeast.  We believe this split will be beneficial to the nation, and especially to the people of the new country of New California.

To sum up briefly:  You get Texas, Oklahoma and all the slave states.
We get stem-cell research and the best beaches.  We get Elliot Spitzer.  You get Ken Lay.  We get the Statue of Liberty.  You get Dollywood.  We get Intel and Microsoft.  You get WorldCom.  We get Harvard.  You get Ole Miss.

We get 85 percent of America’s venture capital and entrepreneurs.  You get Alabama.  We get two-thirds of the tax revenue.  You get to make
the Red States pay their fair share.  Since our aggregate divorce rate is 22 percent lower than the Christian Coalition’s, we get a bunch of happy families.  You get a bunch of single, stressed-out moms.

Please be aware that Nuevo California will be pro choice and antiwar; and
we’re going to want all our citizens back from Iraq at once.  If you need people to fight, ask your evangelicals. They have kids they are apparently willing to send to their deaths for no purpose; and they don’t care if you don’t show pictures of their children’s caskets coming home.  We do wish you success in Iraq, and hope that the WMDs turn up; but we’re not willing to spend our resources in Bush’s Quagmire.

With the Blue States in hand, we will have firm control of: 80 percent of the country’s fresh water, more than 90 percent of the pineapple and lettuce, 92 percent of the nation’s fresh fruit, 95 percent of America’s quality wines (you can serve French wines at your state dinners), 90 percent of all cheese, 90 percent of the high-tech industry, most of the U.S.’s low-sulfur coal, all living redwoods, sequoias and condors, all the Ivy and Seven Sister schools, plus Harvard, Yale, Stanford, Cal Tech and MIT.  We get Hollywood (with only one exception-we are sending you Arnold, who will be much happier with you) and Yosemite, thank you.

With the Red States, you will have to cope with: 88 percent of all obese Americans (and their projected health-care costs), 92 percent of all U.S. mosquitoes, nearly 100 percent of the tornados, 90 percent of the hurricanes, 99 percent of all Southern Baptists, virtually 100 percent of all televangelists, Rush Limbaugh, Bob Jones University, Clemson and the University of Georgia.

Additionally, 38 percent of those in the Red States believe Jonah was actually swallowed by a whale, 62 percent believe life is sacred unless we’re discussing the death penalty or gun laws, 44 percent say that evolution is only a theory, 53 percent think Saddam was involved in 9/11, and 61 percent of you crazy bastards believe you are people with higher morals than we lefties are.

By the way, we’re taking the good pot, too.  You can have that dirt weed they grow in Mexico.

Sincerely,
Author Unknown in New California.

Factchecker,

Your rant is ridiculous. There are no Red states and Blue states. There are only people. You want some numbers? President Bush was re-elected, despite concerns over the economy and the war. He won more votes than any politician in our history. He beat so-called challenger John Kerry by more than 3.5 million votes. He won 80% of all counties and quite a few more states. He won the great majority of precincts. In 2000, President Bush won more electoral votes than Al Gore. He also won 30 states and about 80% of all counties, as well as a majority of precincts. Any way you slice it, by population, by precinct, by town, by county and by state, GW won. That kind of kills your sissy idea of the “blue” states taking the ball and going home.

The fastest growing states, Florida, Texas and North Carolina, are turning more and more Republican every day. The states with declining populations and poor economies, such as Pennsylvania, Ohio and Michigan, are Democratic strongholds (ie. organized labor strongholds). California is slowly moving to the right. When the Republicans get a good candidate who represents conservative values, they will win in a landslide. I don’t have too much faith in the current office holders but people like George Allen, Bill Owens and Condolezza Rice give me hope.

I’m waiting for the next intellectual message from you in which you bash them for being ugly as well. That is your style. I have to admit, I have not seen the likes of it since I was on the playground in 2nd grade in elementary school.

Nice last paragraph there, in which you bashed Red State people for not having the same religious views you have. That said nothing about red staters. It said a lot about your religious bigotry.

Thanks also for the description of “Neuvo California” in which you stated that it would oppose retaliating against terrorists who attack us, but it would wage a war against young children. You call that “morality”.
