Environmental Promise: Products
Wal-Mart has announced a series of environmental sustainability promises in their product lines. Meeting these commitments--including selling only Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) certified fish, eliminating harmful PVC chemicals from all of their products and packaging and reducing the use of packaging for all items--would have positive ramifications for Wal-Mart as an environmentally responsible company.
Wal-Mart has outlined timelines for a number of their product-based intiatives, but the company must publicly announce firm benchmarks and definite timetables for meeting their commitments. Additionally, Wal-Mart must submit their products to independent third-party verification to ensure that the environmental sustainability of their products is meeting the highest standards.
