Washington, D.C. – Wal-Mart Watch executive director David Nassar issues the following statement in response Wal-Mart’s admission that employees have been monitoring electronic communications of a New York Times reporter:

The spying charges against Wal-Mart are scary and illegal, and warrant further investigation from federal authorities. Wal-Mart has consistently asked that it be trusted to do the right thing – on wages, health care, the environment and a whole host of issues – but Wal-Mart demonstrates time and again that it can’t abide by the law. So why should anyone have confidence that Wal-Mart executives will make the right decisions for its company, the communities it serves, or our country?
