Wal-Mart Watch Launches National “Grill Wal-Mart” Week

For Immediate Release
Thursday, July 21, 2005

Wal-Mart Watch today announced the weekend kickoff of “Grill Wal-Mart Week,” a series of neighborhood barbeques that activists and supporters in 25 states will hold the week of July 23-30.

Nationwide, neighbors, friends, and community organizations will gather for barbeques – from Tucson, Arizona, to Germantown, Wisconsin, to New York City’s Central Park – and will share their concerns and plans to improve Wal-Mart’s effect on their hometowns.

Andrew Grossman, Executive Director of Wal-Mart Watch said, “Community activists are the foundation of our effort and a critical part of our grassroots campaign.  Their efforts and dedication will help us tell the important story of how Wal-Mart’s business practices are harmful to America, and how in working together we can effectively pressure the company to improve its ways.”

The Wal-Mart Watch field team, already active in 22 states and expanding, is collaborating with citizen activists, elected officials, and current and former Wal-Mart shoppers, to expand their grassroots network of supporters.  Prospective hosts and attendees can learn more about “Grill Wal-Mart Week” on the Wal-Mart Watch Web site at http://walmartwatch.com/bbq.
