Aubretia Edick tells what Wal-Mart has been like for her and her hometown of Hudson, New York
Washington, DC - Today, Wal-Mart Watch released a new web ad featuring current Wal-Mart worker Aubretia Edick describing her eight-year experience with the company.
Aubretia drives through her hometown of Hudson, New York, and shows first hand the devastation to local businesses and the economy. According to Ms. Edick, workers have been forced to work at Wal-Mart because they are the only jobs available, yet it is nearly impossible for workers in her store to support themselves without government assistance or a second job.
Later Ms. Edick explains the difficulties of using the Wal-Mart health plan and the increasing inflexibility of her store’s management.
When asked what her final wish list would be from Wal-Mart and the Walton Family, Ms. Edick said: “Just be human. Have management be human, have the Walton Family be human. Instead of listening with your pocket, listen with your heart.”
“Ms. Edick’s video is a stark reminder of how Wal-Mart affects real people,” said Wal-Mart Watch spokesman David Nassar. “In so many communities, Wal-Mart has eliminated the competition and effectively forced workers to take its low-wage, low-benefit jobs.”
“It is time for Wal-Mart to change. If the Walton Family decides to do the right thing and lift up its 1.4 million workers, it will lift up America with them.”
