In response to Mike Duke replacing Lee Scott as Wal-Mart’s CEO on Sunday, Wal-Mart Watch Spokesman David Nassar released the following statement:

“During nine years as Wal-Mart’s CEO, Lee Scott has made life harder for Wal-Mart workers. His failure to change Wal-Mart’s business practices has resulted in dozens of wage and hour lawsuits, and declining real wages for Wal-Mart employees.

“We hope that with a new CEO in Bentonville, Wal-Mart can finally turn the page and start to improve the lives of its workers. While most businesses are struggling through the recession, Wal-Mart and the Walton Family are taking in multi-billion dollar profits - giving Mike Duke the unique ability to stimulate the economy and do the right thing by sharing some of the wealth with his 1.4 million U.S. workers. If anyone deserves a raise right now, its Wal-Mart workers.

“We wish Mike Duke the best of luck in the years ahead.”
