Lead-tainted Bibs Expose Wal-mart’s Incomplete Recall Practices

It appears that Wal-Mart only recalls products when it absolutely has to. Consumerist brings news of lead-tainted bibs still on sale in a Wal-Mart Supercenter in Pennsylvania DESPITE the fact that the bibs were recalled more than 8 months ago. This isn’t like other recalled-products-still-for-sale stories (see also: Nazi T-shirt, misc. toys). Wal-Mart’s continuing sales of recalled bibs in Pennsylvania isn’t an employee mistake: it’s a company policy. The products in question - Baby Connection 7-Pack Feeder Bibs - were banned in Illinois for their high lead content, but in the absence of a nationwide recall, Wal-Mart is still selling the bibs in other states. Why does Wal-Mart continue to sell products it knows are dangerous? The company seems to be putting profit before infants’ safety.
