"Over the past fiscal year, we continued to strive for excellence in all aspects of diversity and employment practices. This Year of Accomplishments Report – 2005 outlines diversity strategies implemented under the guidance of our Chief Diversity Officer, Charlyn Jarrells Porter. The report outlines our progress toward becoming an employer of choice, a preferred business partner, a good neighbor, and, thus, a retailer of choice.

In 2005, we further developed our ability to attract, retain and grow the best people by maintaining an environment of support where all Associates feel respected and valued. We have expanded development programs and invested additional resources in Associate selection processes, diversity and inclusion training, as well as mentoring. Additionally, we have established the Associate Resource Groups program for  our home office. We continue to hold our officers financially accountable for diversity successes, by tying their incentive bonuses to the achievement of diversity goals.

It is important that we become a company that is much more transparent with respect to employment data. To that end, we will release information on the gender and racial makeup of our workforce on a regular basis. We have included a series of charts in this year’s report that provide a snapshot of Wal-Mart and its workforce diversity today."
